Stober Elementary School, located in Lakewood, CO and part of the Jefferson County School District, is on the list of five elementary schools within the district to be closed down by the 2017/18 school year. Although Stober has faced this type of threat in the past, a severe budget crisis for the district along with the failure of recent bond/mill initiatives means that the situation is even more critical. Stober is a small, community-based school with engaged parents, innovative teachers and staff, diverse students, and high academic performance. Stober is a model of what elementary schools can achieve, despite limited district investment and consistent threats of closure.
