We can't lose this work, industry jobs to other countries. We've got to try to save industries and jobs here, so that money earned by employees can be put back in to the local community, and the UK as a whole. What happens to all of these people if they lose their jobs? Most will end up on benefits, some will succumb to mental illness through stress, which requires money to treat. All counter productive. Keeping industries and jobs in this country is condusive to a healthy economy, and thriving communities. Why not try to save these jobs? No good reason!

As I said on my facebook page, I doubt if the present government would step in with the few million needed to keep the place running for five years or so until the market picks up - whatever that means these days. That cost would be offset by the benefits bill to a certain extent but would keep the industry ticking over and the skills and jobs going for the community. If it was a bank in London, of course, a few billion pounds of our money would be pumped into it!

It will be tragic if SSI closes. They have been on the brink before, but rescued. I sincerely hope that something is done to save it from permanent closure and for it to remain here in Redcar.
