We will need steel for many future infrastructure projects and the Government should keep the works open. The Government should insist on Teeside steel being used on these projects and uniquely specify it in the contracts. Every other country does it.

we will always need steel. Total closure of this plant will have economic consequences both in the short term redundancies and job losses plus social deprevation, and in the long term when we will need to import from places such as China who have caused this steel price collapse.

There will always be banks and financial institutions. There will come a day very soon if you continue on the same path where the hardworking and skilled men/women that build the banks homes will be no more. The secret of UK steel will vanish forever unless you quit the rhetoric gibberish no-one believes, and start to act as you would for the banks.

It is vital not only for the people of Teesside but also for those of the UK that this important industry is maintained.

Steel making was butchered under Thatcher - we surely don't want a repeat in the 21st century.

My husband has his own business which only after a few weeks of SSI closing, has dramatically affected his turnover. A lot of his customers were employed in the steel industry, therefore this in turn will have a knock on effect with other local business we use in the area and so on. I dread to think what this area will be like in a few months time never mind now. It is so sad and frustrating to see another industry collapse and hard working tax payers and individuals who fought for this country in limbo or at an impasse, what have we all got to believe in now Mr Cameron?

Coming from the Consett area originally, I well-remember the negative effect the closure of the steelworks had on the community. I have great empathy with this important petition and the people who would be affected by any closures.

Millions pledged for asylum seekers
Millions loaned to help a Canadian steelworks
Chinease football teams ect ect
What is going on ?
Keep our manufacturing in the uk.
Would it not be cheaper for the government to run the steelworks and take everyone off the dole in this area ,keep all the apprenticeships going ? Sometimes its good to think outside the box!! (common sense)
Time to support our businesses.
