It would be a disaster for the steel industry if the Redcar plant is closed, one of the largest blast furnaces in Europe and having had so much investment. How can we grow a manufacturing base in this country (recent government statement) if the core ingredients to make that industry viable have been undermined, undervalued and under invested in??

So much of the local economy depends on steel making - if David Cameron is serious about a Northern Powerhouse, then they need to play the environment card similar to the Italian government and step in and help. Time is running out.
