It is vital that we realise he value of our manufacturing industries and do everything to enable their survival. Demand may have reduced but it will increase again and we need to be ready for that day.

As a Tees tugboat egineer I work for one of the service industries providing assistance for the berthing of ships bringing raw materials for the production of SSI steel on Teeside. The possible closure would jeopardise our jobs as well as the jobs of steelworkers and the jobs in other supporting business's. Surely it would be cost effective to save our steel rather than pay out fortunes in benefits. This scenario reminds me of the way Thatcher turned her back on the British coal industry.

My great great grandfather owned steelworks on this site 1870-1916. He would be horrified at it's demise.
