Please keep this BEAUTIFUL church open. I been going to this church for over 30 years, got married there, my five children baptist there, communion and confirmation there. This BEAUTIFUL church belong to Deaf and Hard of Hearing people and their family too. We all socialized there. It will be very disappointed for all Deaf and Hard of Hearing community if St. Elizabeth's Church close. PLEASE KEEP THIS BEAUTIFUL ST. ELIZABETH'S CHURCH OPEN!!

There is no reason to close this church as it is SO necessary for the overall wellbeing of its special congregation!~

Pope Francis would never agree to the closing of this church. In his Christmas address, reported in all the major news outlets today, the pope blasted the church bureaucrats for what he called "spiritual Alzheimer's". Cardinal Dolan's closing of this church that has served the deaf community for decades is a perfect example of the SPIRITUAL DEAFNESS of Cardinal Dolan and the NY Archdiocese. I am a Jewish atheist with no dog in this race, but I am also a humanist who finds this lack of Christian compassion incomprehensible.

Please allow St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church to continue to have regular Masses and sacraments. I am 89 years old and cannot walk to the planned, merged church, St. Monica’s. I have been going to church regularly all my life, and to St. Elizabeth’s for 50 years: I don’t wish to stop now. The faithful elderly and the walking-impaired of St. Elizabeth’s, and those of St. Stephen of Hungary Church, may not be able to walk to St. Monica’s, but should be able to walk to St. Elizabeth’s.
Since 1980, St. Elizabeth’s has been the church for nearly 500 of our faithful deaf, where they come for their Mass in sign language, study religion, and socialize. St. Elizabeth’s has been a much, needed anchor in their lives, and has the facilities for their needs, which St. Monica’s does not.
Our pastor, Msgr. Patrick McCahill tells us that our parish is financially sound with an adequate surplus, has no debt to the Archdiocese, and the building is in good shape. We are the dedicated faithful who attend regular Sunday and Holiday Masses, and contribute to all the collections that help the Archdiocese and the Church run its ministries and outreach programs.
St. Elizabeth’s strengthens us spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically; there I love to sing in English and Latin. My faith has kept me strong, and I seem to give that strength to others. Please allow us to continue to worship and help the Church, from St. Elizabeth’s. God bless you.

It is hard to understand why a church that is financially solvent and has a special place in the lives of the hearing impaired should be closed.
The building is in good shape and the community is vibrant. I wonder if Pope Francis would agree with the Cardinal's decision.
