We need such areas. They are the lungs of Washington and Gateshead, keeping pollution at bay. Washington Developement Corporation put a covenant on the land not to be built on.

Surely there must be an alternative? My family has lived in the village since the 1940s and we've seen too many changes. There must be somewhere else to build.

The village has been a peaceful haven for my elderly parents. Let's keep it that way.

Proud to have lived here all my life, have saw sone decline over those 27years, but it has maintained a village feel and to build on surrounding green belt is unnecessary and unwanted. Other more suitable land is available throughout the district.

There are plenty of other land to build in. There are very few green belt areas left. We need to save qhet we can. If Sunderland council are short of housing why are they not rebuilding where they've knock whole estates down?

Leave our greenbelt alone. It is totally unnecessary to build there.

It's somewhat strange that Hellens claim they have to build on greenbelt land because no one wants to live on redeveloped brownfield sites. Have a look at their own website where they claim they are “market leaders in the reclamation and remediation of brownfield sites” and are “active in the purchase of brownfield sites for redevelopment using the Company’s expertise to regenerate the sites”. I think this undermines any argument they have to build on greenfield sites.
