My two older grandchildren were at
Enota when Sally Meaders started the MIA program. She worked with all the parent and grandparent volunteers in the garden in the beginning stages. The older grandchildren are in high school and college. I now have another granddaughter at Enota who is learning all about the gardens and their history. It makes me so happy to share this with all the children. I can't imagine not having this treasure of a gem not only for the school but for our neighborhood. It is a gift to drive by each day and see this unique urban planting by our sweet neighborhood school. I would be very sad should this not be preserved for all those future generations. As gardeners we realize we are planting for our future admirers as well as our own pleasure. We also know how many days and years it takes for a garden to mature. With the drought in the past the water storage tower informed the students about smart water usage and reminded us older ones how to be resourceful as well. Thank you "Smartville!" There were many rain water barrels installed at homes that year all over town. Our many thanks to the Folkeles and all who were involved and are still involved for making our town so beautiful.

As a Smartville graduate and later volunteer gardener I can attest to the value this garden adds to the Enota students. It can instill a respect for nature and beauty at a young age. Working to weed and plant in it as a student showed me the benefits of investing time towards something you care about for the future and how to work for a goal you can't necessarily see at the time but fills you with joy and wonder upon taking in the beautiful blossoms of spring. This garden still serves as a point of pride for me today as an Enota alumnus, and I would be heartbroken to see it missing.

I am a Red Elephant through and through and while I never actually went to Enota (I moved in later), I know how much this garden means to our Big Red community. In this day and age where so much of the world is concrete and big buildings- having an escape for children to learn about nature and the earth is immeasurable. Please save Smartville Garden so future generations can enjoy and learn.

While a new building has value it is very important to have a line of continuity to the past to remember who you are and here is there is that past found but also the ever current growth and vitality needing to be nurtured on and into the future

Smartville Garden is a wonderful place. I have fond memories of installing the garden, digging and planting along with students, parents, teachers, and neighbors of the school. Ever since, it has been a gathering place and point of pride for the whole community. Let's teach the children of Enota about what is really important in life by saving the garden.

Smartville Garden has been beneficial to Enota Elementary students for many years. As an aesthetic addition, it gives Enota the charming character a school and its students deserve. Personally, I have enjoyed watching this project take shape and flourish. During and after its creation I nannied children who participated in the founding and maintenance of Smartville Garden. They enthusiastically showed me around the garden while explaining the different aspects it contain and the part they (and their classmates) had in making it.
Smartville Garden helps children actively learn, experience, and participate in building something that gives back to the Gainesville community, the Earth, and themselves. As someone who was born in Gainesville and grew up close to Enota, I find the destruction of Smartville Garden unacceptable and believe it should be preserved at all costs.

I attended Enota and it holds a very special place in my heart as it does for countless current and former Gainesville residents. If I have one regret from Enota, it is that the Smartville Garden was not there when I was a little guy. Let's save this invaluable educational resource for current and future students, faculty, staff, & community members (as well as the plants and animals that thrive there). It is essential to teach tomorrow's leaders and voters the importance of good stewardship of nature!

This is the best outdoor classroom I have ever seen! Please adjust the location of the new school to allow this beautiful setting to continue to serve.
