It'd be shameful to lose this outdoor classroom. Children today have so few opportunities to interact and learn from nature, develop their creativity, find a calming place, explore and dig and get dirty and question. Without this garden, Enota Elementary will miss out on the chance to engage children in a full, vibrant education that changes lives.

We ought not to even be having to float a petition on this issue. One would hope school officials would see the value of the garden to the students and community at large and decide in the planning process that the garden should. be preserved. Shame! Shame!

During this season of division in our country the Smartville Garden at Enota Elementary School in Gainesville, Georgia is the one project of unification that we see for our whole community. The garden has brought all walks of life together to unite for one purpose to help our future generations understand the value of conserving a green space and utilizing all available resources for this preservation. To destroy this well established garden would be a travesty not only to the community but to our youth. It is sad that those who have a large vested interest in the garden were not even in the beginning stages of planning for a new school. My question is " What is the big rush to tear down?"

Why would you destroy something so beautiful. Teaching children to love nature and love being a part of growing something of beauty and value to life is on of the best lessons a child can be taught.

I recall seeing the before and now after. It is amazing how much has grown and thrived just as the children have in their plantings. Carolyn Mahar and others should be proud! I am sad to see it may be lost.

Like many have stated above, this garden is important to the learning environment for the children who attend Enota. What should be undervalued is the joy that this garden brings to the children and even more so the community. During my time with the FGC and volunteering with many others at this garden, I witnessed and experienced how much joy a garden can bring to people. This garden has done more for the community than anything that would replace it. While it is important to give our children an updated and safe place to learn, it's also important to help them learn about preserving the future. Saving this garden would teach them preservation and valuing their community.

This is a quality plant collection that stimulates learning, fosters science process skills, calms nerves before testing, supports biodiversity, and creates an outdoor classroom for many disciplines. Save this Garden for future school kids. They need this connection to nature. Science documents the positive offers of nature on kids, their ability to learn, their ability to calm and focus their minds. And this was a beautiful gift to the city that should not be simply dismissed, for we would all pause before making such donations if they aren't valued.
