Terrible attack on family doctors who run medical clinics. In Ontario, not only are we swallowing healthcare cuts at the Provincial level while trying to personally keep the clinics afloat, dealing with the forthcoming reckless minimum wage increase (from 11.40 to 15), now we will suffer from federal changes also targeting small businesses. This government isn't cognizant at all about the effects of these policy changes on small businesses and on primary care physicians who work a outside the hospital and run practices for the community.

I have no pension or paternity leave plan, my wife works in the home/with our kids b/c my job does not allow me any flexibility to deal with those duties, & my overhead is large. These tax reforms will set back my retirement and my kids savings plans. Pls represent my concerns.

We need more time to understand the implications of this change. There is such a broad reach of impact with what seems like a very small return. The effort and fiscal responsibility should be focused somewhere that will not devastate mom and pop shops and small corporations.

Dear Mr. Garretsen,
I urge you to consider the short and long term consequences the proposed changes will have for the economy of our city, our province and our country. Beyond that, the reforms will have far reaching negative consequences to our healthcare system and those who have dedicated themselves to the care of others for decades. The way in which physician are being portrayed in the media (as wealthy tax cheats who don't pay their fair share) is nothing short of deplorable and overtly deceitful. Physicians were encouraged to incorporate by previous administrations in lieu of increasing fees and as a way to save for retirement. These tax laws provide a way for physicians and other incorporated small businesses to legally plan and save for benefits that salaried employees enjoy without a second thought: sick leave, bereavement, maternity leave, health benefits and retirement. I have no doubt that there may be some small businesses that could be abusing aspects of the tax law. To that, I would encourage the appropriate changes to be implemented. However, I would also encourage you and your party to recall why these laws are in place to begin with, why you encouraged small business owners to use them, and what you risk losing for everyone in this country should you risk the viability of small business owners everywhere. I fear the fallout will not be small.

Small businesses are the only ones that seem to whether the economic downturns and retain their employees and what do we get for that resilience, cut backs to incentives that help us to remain profitable.

This tax reform will result in me working fewer hours as a physician as it will not be worth losing time with my family for even less pay.
If your government is so concerned about creating a level playing field between employers and employees, please make concessions for us to have pensions, parental leave, sick days etc.
Also, expect a bitter fight for fee increases for physicians if this goes through. I know that is with the provincial government but your constituents will be affected none the less.
