PRESS RELEASE
15/01/2015 for immediate release
Dear All,
I am please to report that in a meeting of Skegness Town Council held last night (14/01/2105) when a Section 5 motion was placed before the Council by Cllr Maggie Gray and seconded the following motion was voted on and passed unanimously in favour to support
“This Council pledges its support for the Save the Foreshore Groups nomination made on 12/01/2015 to list the land situate at and known as the Pier Field, North Parade, Skegness on East Lindsey District Councils register as a community asset.
This Council considers that the main use of the Pier Field has in the past furthered and continues and will continue to further the social, cultural and economic well-being or social interests of the local community and it is realistic to think that it can continue to do so in the near future even if the type of social use or benefit might change, under the provisions of the Localism Act 2011 and Regulations made pursuant to that Act”
END
This now means the following groups have now showed their support for the registration of Pier Field as a community asset.
Skegness Town Council
Skegness Chamber of Commerce
SECQWA (Hoteliers Group)
1650 Residence and Tourists (by petition)

rediculous hair brain idea just not right to build in front of views from hotel that have been their for centries. does the council actually own this land or was it donated by someone. seems to me they think they can just do what they like. Even the children's park in Ingoldmells has been built on. now the children have no where to play dam right discusting.

Key questions:
1)Why were the restrictive covenants removed for the site and who instigated this? The National Planning Policy Framework outlines that one of the key principles of planning should always be to seek to secure a good standard of amenity for all existing and future occupants of land or buildings.
2)Loss of green space and public amenity contravenes Local Planning Policy - “Development which
unacceptably harms the general amenities of people living or
working nearby will not be permitted.”
3)Regeneration of High Street - see other historic destination seaside towns and methods employed by councils to encourage investors to re-use existing buildings in the centre of town, rather than build on prime sites that can be utilised by the community as a whole.
Why no investment in retention of High Street - where is the council policy to enable this?
For the administrator - Please contact local press to re-publicize your
i-petition. The link the Standard has put on their main page is not correct.

we welcome someone like premier inn into the town but not for this site the pier field should be for attractions the council would be better spending their time trying to entice a big name attraction like madam tussards or legoland or a similar type of attraction to use this site there are plenty of other sites in the town for a hotel what is wrong with the inn on the park site in tower gardens and the council could sell them the small car park on scarborough avenue as part of it this site would be perfect

Not only is a Premier Inn the wrong thing for the Pier Field, but the Pier Field is the wrong place for a Premier Inn.
EVERYBODY...Please remember that the strongest time to lodge your objections is when the planning application goes in. List points such as the loss of a green space, loss of an outdoor amenity area, building out of keeping, no other hotels present on that side of the road, insufficient space for parking...
Keep checking to see when the application goes in here:
http://publicaccess.e-lindsey.gov.uk/online-applications
and then either lodge a protest by registering online or send it in by post to ELDC because all comments are presented to the planning officers/councillors, and you never know, some of them may be as horrified as we are about the idea!
