For over a decade Shared Planet society has run a cafe on campus which provides cheap locally sourced food for students. Over the summer the University Management decided that this cafe contravenes University Policy. They are yet to explain this decision or policy and this entire process has happened without student consultation. Shared Planet Cafe gave students a space to engage in the community at the University of Aberdeen, to get involved in environmental activism and to access cheap healthy food. The cafe donated funds to a number of political and environmental causes, student groups and even help fund a living wage intern at People and Planet. Students deserve this space.
