I have known Scott's parents and Scott as a baby, defending himself and his family was certainly an act of self defense.
In reading the court case the victim was certainly was certainly under the influence.

Based on evidence that Scott Hapgood acted in defense of his self and two young children against the knife wielding attacker and that the toxicology report on the attacker proves that his death was due to acute cocaine toxicity and more than double the legal limit of alcohol and marijuana in his bloodstream, please consider dropping the charges now against Mr. Hapgood and concluding this case. sooner rather than later.Respectfully, R.
