The council should take some responsibility and help the small businesses, they keep the town going and are longstanding, some of them have been there for many years and it is not fair that they are suffering because proper access is not in place, and obligations are not being met. Support your small businesses Calderdale Council !!

The traders needs support during the road works, without support they will not be trading by the time the work is finished.

Our business Halifax Plumbers Merchants has approximately 80% less foot fall since these 'improvements'. No support from the council whatsoever. We were never invited to the public consultation Please see this if you intend any legal action against the council Please see this report 'compensation for loss of business from road works' from the House of Commons library. I copy the position from Transport minister Keith Hill (2001) (http://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/SN00200#fullreport). "Highway works ultimately benefit the whole community. Occupies of premises may be entitled to compensation if something is done improperly (for example, the blocking of access without authority) but not otherwise" I'd say access has very much been blocked without any permission given - definitely for our business

Without independent traders Halifax is a dying town. We have no major high street brands so we rely on these shops to make purchases. It’s also someone’s livelihood Please make some concession for these people. Without them there’s no point in having roads apart from the one out of Halifax !

It's shocking that there is no compensation for the disruptions on saltertethebble hill, i have a chip shop top of jubilee road, and we are felling it on our revenue since it started. It's absolutely shutting businesses down!!!!

We never thought the road works would cause such an impact on our local businesses. Please support your local businesses in any way you can. Thank you, Kirk Lea Guest House

I think the council has an obligation to help small businesses, especially when people's livelihoods are at stake. I'm sure the would find the money if it affected them. This does not only affect the business but the workforce too.
