I am shocked to read this. It would be a terrible decision to close this school particularly in this current state of the world. Do the right thing.

I went to saint Martha's as a child over 25 years ago and my Nana was a teacher who retired from teaching there. I also now have friends whonare working theire. I am very saddened to hear that the school is now closing abruptly without any place for the teachers and current students to go. I am signing in hopes that we can get enough people to remain open.

SMS is not only a school, it is a community/family that not only educates our students but makes they feel safe and welcomed in a Christ Centered atmosphere. I have the honor of working with an amazing staff that have become a second family. It would not serve any purpose to close such an amazing school where students are not only thriving but are happy to be there each an every day. As someone who has worked for years in the public school system, Saint Martha School is a breath of fresh air!

As a business owner and former representative of the Enfield community, I feel it is important that the Hartford archdiocese reconsider their decision of the abrupt closure of SMS and afford them another school calendar year to demonstrate that they can continue to educate children and our families for years to come. It’s not always about the money, it’s about giving back to the community.

It seems that in this day with age parents are looking for quality education along with spirital education, a place like this would stay open. I think this needs to be thought though prayfully.

Saint Martha School (SMS) is a National Blue Ribbon School that has proven to provide the public with an opportunity to give their children a choice with a superior education compared to the public education system our government is failing to give for over 50 years. Students come from as far and wide as East Hartford CT, to Monson MA. SMS is more than just a non-profit Catholic School. It provides a family oriented culture that you do not always find at any other school private or public. When you come to this school you are greeted by the Principal or another representative of the school as family; rain, snow or shine! If you ask any (current/past) student or parent as to why they chose SMS over any other school, I am confident that their answer would be because you feel like you’re part of a family. The school is supported by it’s parishioners, Knights of Columbus, Home & School Association (HSA) and Helping Hands. Closing SMS would create a void to our community. I pray the Hartford Archdiocese reconsiders their decision. I pray for all of the faculty, students and parents along with its supportive community.
