**UPDATE: Glynn County Planning Board Member Openly Mocks This Petition During Public Hearing — Trying to Undermine the Voices of Over 800 Signatures

At the last planning meeting, a board member mocked this petition, even pointing to the one obvious fake name someone signed (Kermit the Frog) as a punchline. Our community deserves to be taken seriously — and the best way to make sure our voices are heard is to keep signing, sharing, and showing up this Thursday night.**

They bought the land under certain rules. They want to change those rules for profit. We as a community have a right to say NO.

An out-of-town developer purchased two parcels along Myers Hill Road and Lakes Drive, knowing how the land was zoned—and now they’re asking our county to make changes to the housing density levels.

Currently, the property is approved for 250 homes. They want to change that to 345 homes by amending density. One parcel is zoned Planned Development (PD) and the other is Forest Agriculture (FA). They want to rezone both into one large PD parcel for a higher density—creating lots as small as 0.18 acres each.

Here’s the reality:

  • The Glynn County Comprehensive Plan calls for low-to-moderate density development in this area.
  • The entire Highway 82 corridor west of Highway 17 to the county line is currently made up predominantly of half-acre (21,780 sqft) lots or larger, reflecting that goal.
  • This developer wants to drop in a subdivision with lots as tiny as 0.18-acre (8,000 sqft)—a massive deviation from the county’s stated vision for this region.
  • This exact development was voted down by the Board of Commissioners on January 16. Yet only six months later, it’s back on the agenda with NO changes to the plan.

What we are asking:

Tell the Commissioners to vote NO on rezoning the Forest Agriculture parcel to Planned Development and say NO to modifying the density for this project. Development should follow the Glynn County Comprehensive Plan and the vision our county has for this community—not override it for higher profits.

Why This Matters

  • Safety: Myers Hill Road is a rural, two-lane road with no sidewalks and a community center where kids walk and bike. Hundreds more cars will create dangerous conditions.
  • Traffic: Our small roads weren’t built for this level of development.
  • Schools & Services: High-density developments like this could put significant strain on our local schools, emergency services, and infrastructure.
  • Farms: Surrounding farms, like the well-known Oglesby Blueberry Farm, could be harmed. The developer’s plan includes 23 acres of stormwater ponds, which may change water tables and threaten crops.

We are not against development. We support responsible growth that follows the rules and aligns with the county’s own plan for this area.

What You Can Do:✅ Sign the petition today and share it widely.

✅ Call or email your County Commissioners—make your voice heard.

Attend the public hearing, the number of people in the room makes a huge difference: Thursday, September 4th at 6:00 PM at the Old Court House, 2nd Floor. 701 G Street, Brunswick.
