What's wrong with the original location for the daycare? Keep the green space green!

I bought my first home (a one-bedroom condo) at the "Boardwalk" 19 years ago. At that time, it was a very tranquil setting, with sawmills and people walking/dog walking/bike paths where the massive 16,000-18,000 people-infusion "River District" is now being developed. I ALWAYS knew that was planned and was actually involved in a couple of lovely, original planning meetings when we all discussed our utopian views of the ideal community development. I also did my homework when buying and knew that the area at the end of Jellicoe would eventually be developed for low cost housing or a co-op or Assisted Living; nobody was sure then what the site would actually hold. What I NEVER EXPECTED was this statement from the city that the park across from me is "actually not a park". Go figure! We were all told that that land was sacrosanct. The city maintains it as a park but apparently it is up for grabs to any developer….even "indirectly" through relocation of non-condo facilities from the East Fraser Lands to the West side. Please retain this lovely green space. Is is why I live here and why people are currently buying here!!! The sound of ultimate frisbee players and families playing with their dogs and kids in a non-structured environment is a refreshing break from the increasing sound off of South East Marine Drive…..and there is a 60% increase in that since ALL trees were removed from Kerr to Boundary. I go down on a hot day and read a book and "shoot the breeze" with my neighbours. There are going to be many thousands more neighbours in the coming 2 years and we need to preserve the little space that we have. If we cannot keep our green tree canopy… with song birds... in this city, could we PLEASE KEEP SOME GREEN LAND SPACE. Please, please listen to your hearts and souls; this is a beautiful part of Vancouver that is being relentlessly marketed for its "closeness with nature". Don't remove even more of that "nature. The River District development has already ruined the neighbourhood atmosphere of the area. We need more parks, not more unwanted urbanization.

We need all the green space we can get. Many of us will never be able to afford outside space of our own, so please save our park and build the daycare as originally planned.

The original plan had developers set aside land for a Daycare or school. Why do they need to use THIS land? $$$$$$$$$$$$rules???

This park has been used by locals for the 12 years I have lived in this area. Don't let the city destroy more of our precious space.

There is very little open green space in our community of the river district and this parcel needs to be saved as park land.

To destroy the only large greenspace left in the area for an amenity that should be located further east as promised is an extremely short sighted and ill thought out plan. This is not an appropriate site for a day care.

I've enjoyed the river walk for over 20years and have been living down here for 4years now.
I have seen all the development over the years and am saddened to hear they will be taking the last of the green space away from a community that have been enjoying it for years.
For a city who boasts preserving and creating the most green space, I am shocked and somewhat embarrassed that they would take the only space we have down here away.

Ive been living at 8495 Jellicoe Street sine 1996. with all the land thats come up I see NO REASON to remove the park that is used and enjoyed my many.

A Daycare is not needed in this location. Put one where the new housing and shops are going. There is not much park/waterfront park land left and a daycare is a waste of space.

This park is an integral part of the River District neighborhood. With the degree of development planned for the area, it is imperative that the existing parks remain a vital component and not be paved over to make way for another building. There is still plenty of time to plan for the location of a day care on the east side of Kerr.

I am a resident on Jellicoe Street and I love that we have a park space less than one block away. As a person with disability, it is wonderful to experience this park space from a safe walking distance. You must keep this park intact and do not reduce the size to build on it. We need it to be a sports field size with additional room for others to use. DO NOT BUILD ON THIS SPACE!!!

do not remove this existing park. It is already being widely used by a diverse group of people. A day care can easily be placed at the temporary firehall @ Kerr st and Rosemont Dr once the new 1 is completed, but this park cannot be replaced if you remove it. This is a very bad idea, and council and mayor should be ashamed if they do not listen to our concerns about this park and insist on a daycare. But, since when has this council and mayor actually listened to the citizens concerned? zero! This is your opportunity to do the right thing and listen. STOP this decision NOW!!

This is our only large green space. With the development of the River District, the daycare should have been built into those plans. We need more real useable green space not less!

This park is very widely used as a playing field and the insertion of a daycare or any other building will make the remioander of the playing field too small for most team activities that take place there now.
