Save Riverfront Park

This is an invaluable green play and gathering space for our community. Please deem this space a park for our generation and those to come!

The Riverfront community park is a very important green space for this growing neighborhood. It is a place where we form positive relationships with our neighbors, a place where we play with our children and a place where our dogs can walk and exercise. Riverfront Park is an important heartbeat of this community. I am an architect, in my opinion, it seems quite ill conceived to just plop a large daycare down yards away from people’s private residences. By doing this, the Riverfront community will be severely severed. Please reconsider the enormous cost this will have on this beautifully growing community. Please rezone as a park and protect this important green space that this community so desperately wants to keep. We choose our beautiful park over pavement.

As a owner and part of the community, before all this new developement, we have had to live with road closures, walking paths that are so dusty and hazardous, excess noise, traffic ... Are neighbourhood has been so disrupted, yet while patient and tolerant, the refuge we all have been able to escape to and relax is the only quiet green space left west of this massive new "neighbourhood ". Please re zone this green space and preserve it for our neighbourhood. We need to be able to breath and enjoy a place for our family, friends, pets and exercise.

We don't need more buildings in this area. This is the only green space we have, and it is cruel to take it away.

This is a park and should be left as park. A park is a large, green area for the enjoyment and recreation where families and people can meet and relax and enjoy the green space with their friends and family. Its place where residents and pets d and children can play in a open space. This park is enjoyed by many and also in the summer this park is used by sport teams which brings a community together. This park needs to be rezoned as "park" and left to the community not as daycare sight or anything else. Also, the people who live on this park will affected. Twenty five feet out from their property line is minimal and ridiculous. Building a daycare will affect the people of area, the environment and the spirit of the river district.

Please build the daycare where originally intended in the giant development east of Kerr. We were so sad to see the thousands of trees cut down for this development. Please leave this frequently used park "as is".

This Park is a resource to the community but to the city at large . its this field that makes the riverwalk park so enticing to the many people that come here to use the beautiful trails and enjoy the pier etc, THis development destroys the aesthetic which will lead to the rest of the field being transformed as well. Why move ? wasn't the original idea something agreed to by the developers on the parcels now being developed? there is plenty of space over to the east, THE REAL QUESTION IS WHAT ARE THEY DOING WITH THE ORIGINAL SITE? and why?

Greenspace is a necessity as Vancouver is already overdeveloped with condos etc... This area is proposed to house 18,000 more residents over the next 10 years ..so it's important we factor in parks etc to this area.

It is so disgusting that the city and developers are stripping away our precious green space in the name of money and greed. You already has a space planned for the daycare and yet you want to take almost half of our park for this daycare. What is so disgusting is there is over 84 acres of land that you are only building 1 and 2 bedroom condos that only less than 10% is suitable for high income families. What is more insulting is that your staff tell me to my face that they are not taking up green space because the roof with be green. Hello! I can't walk my dog up there, I can't play soccer with my son on a roof and I won't be seeing the rest of the community on a roof for an evening gathering in the park. This greed and reckless development in our community has to stop. Keep the daycare where it was supposed to be and LEAVE OUR PARK ALONE.

I have lived in the fraserlands for 27 years. I do not want the little bit of green space we have, used for a day care to service the river district. Use the original boundary location, that you have let a Polygon destroy already. For a city that promotes green you have left none here by the river for humans, animals and birds to enjoy.

We believe that the needs for this day care facility is more critically needed to the north of Marine Drive and that the parkland area is unsuitable as the City is becoming so densely developed that maintaining this piece of property as is, becomes more critical for both the residents of the area and other Vancouverites.

The city wants to put a daycare atop a downtown parkade and may allow one in a tower complex at Marine and Fraser, yet the planners can't find a site for childcare in the sprawling River District. They need to ask the mayor to meet with Wesgroup to work this mess out. The residents of West Fraserlands should not have to sacrifice a single square foot of green space for amenities that are promised to us in the East Fraserlands plan.

We went to the city presentation May 4th, and while the city planners there nodded and smiled they admitted to us that they have no power to influence the decision, and as far as they're concerned the city is going ahead with their plans. The open house to the public appears to have been nothing more than a formality in the process and while the community's reaction was almost universally negative this didn't seem to matter. The stock response is "zoning". Well, we all know how easy that is to change.The only thing that will matter is strong representation at the city council meeting and I urge everyone to attend. It's on a TBD date in June. There's 126 acres of concrete development that already has a spot designated for this daycare. I find it incredibly hard to believe that they city wants to use the one single remaining acre of green space, that families and children and pets use continuously now, in order to move something that doesn't need to be move to something that could never be replaced. It's only an "amenity" if it serves the community, and the opportunity cost of creating this amenity is destroying another amenity that the community loves and cherishes in order to build something that nobody wants in that location. Vancouver is promising to be the greenest city on the planet within the next 4 years. Well, it's time for Vancouver to put its money where its mouth is and protect this park, the only green space remaining in this area. Save the park!

Build the daycare on the original site and leave Riverfront Park alone! So many people use this park! It would be a terrible mistake to build a daycare there!

This open greenspace has served and is used as a park for 20 years already. 3038 E Kent Ave. S which is the Southampton Apartment building has West facing yards which are an extension of this greenspace and putting a noisy daycare in our backyard is completely unacceptable and a blatant disregard for the owners in Southampton. Rezone this outdated zoning from 1986 - the City has decided, since then, to place residents in this area therefore this open greenspace needs to be saved and rezoned to "greenspace in perpetuity" and continue to be used as it has been for 20 years.

Keep the Day Care in East Fraserlands.

A happy community exists in a place, and a city that houses this community now wants to impose invasive change on it. With all the money the city hall is making from the Cambie and Oak corridoor re-developments, is it not time to keep some places un-changed, happy, self sufficient. Please leave this neighbourhood the way it is.

My family and I cherish this park, and use it frequently. Please do not take any of this park away from us.
