Clark County has failed in its responsibilities to act as stewards of the natural environments surrounding Las Vegas, in so many ways, and often in direct violation of their own conservation agreements. Compared to the kinds of well-developed conservation programs and close cooperation, between local governments and communities in surrounding states, southern Nevada is like a third-world country. Has anything really changed with the present County Commission since Operation G-String? We will see with how the vote goes, whether we have a Commission that values the precious natural heritage of Nevada and what it means for all generations, or do they still cater to developers and money-power over everything else, as though nothing else matters?
Southern Nevada was blessed with a limited number of absolutely extraordinary natural wonders. There are still so many prospects for urban development in so many appropriate places throughout the valley. Why would anyone vote to permit such an irreversible despoliation of such a place as Red Rock?
Also, how could it possibly be the job of our elected officials to undermine the public trust by setting such a precedent against the very idea of zoning rules existing for the purpose of protecting the quality of life for all? What could possibly be their motive to go to such lengths to distort and manipulate the rules, just to please a single, wealthy and powerful individual, at the expense of the interests of the general community and the very purpose of public service?
Property rights are important, very important. But they are not UNLIMITED, and for good reasons. Could you or I get a permit to build a liquor store next to a high school? Actually, in Las Vegas, maybe you could, but only if you had a County Commission this determined to let you.
We really need definitive answers to questions like these. We need to check our mechanisms of accountability for our local officials, and that means all the

Red Rock is a local natural beauty in the desolate Las Vegas Valley. It is so important we protect it now, so it can be enjoyed by future generation.

Red Rock is a huge part of mine and many others lives. It was disturbing when they came in and "spruced up" Calico Basin while driving out the Sunday drum circle. This place is sacred to so many. The developement of mountains edge already made getting to red rock a headache, putting in more houses would practically take it away.

I have been to Red Rock many times hiking and have obtained many of my childhood memories there, and I would hate to see such a dramatic change in our environment that would negatively impact Red Rock.
I love Red Rock!
