Save the Raga .. It's a brilliant medium for the young writers in college and it is a lot off too .. There is no plausible reason to do away with the Raga !

I was an editor of Raga with Shilpa Phadke and also a contributor for the years that I was in college. It was an amazing experience, taught me about team-work, deadlines, working with shoestrings budgets, quality writing and marketing - all skills I use today. Please don't shut down this important Malhar institution.

Raga, is the forerunner and for so many school and college newsletters.
In addition to it being a great way to showcase writing about the fest and the college, with oodles of humour and creativity, please don't shut it down!

Raga means a lot to everyone who has ever done any work for the Malhar organizing team (OCs, OCs and volunteers) irrespective of the department that they worked for. Please do not shut this department and deny hopeful future writers the space and the opportunity to express themselves and to experience being read by other students in the college.

I have been a part of both LA and Raga and I know that one can't do the job of the other. Both departments must co-exist. For all the creative legacy that Xavier's boasts of, this move is shameful. Raga is one of the last-standing safe havens of the creative and witty. It imparts confidence, technical skills in editing and designing and a lifetime's worth of solid support from like-minded writers. In an environment where being able to express oneself freely is becoming increasingly rare, shutting down Raga sounds like an ominous death knell.

The fact that Raga means so much to so many people, long after they've passed out of St. Xavier's is, in my opinion, a clear indication of the kind of impact it has on the lives that it touches and this, consequentially, is reason enough to bring it back.

This petition captures everything that I feel about Raga and puts them into words. It was indeed the only department in college where I fit in and could write and meet other like-minded people. It was a place to learn that being different is good and to our advantage. It would be extremely sad if future Xavierites were deprived of this option.

It was thanks to Raga that I was able to surround myself with some of the most creative and critical students in the city. I also happened to learn how to edit, design, commission and publish like a boss through the complex and wonderful paper that I worked on for four years. Saved me a tidy sum and several years in journalism school. I owe the best parts of my college life and my career to it. It's incredibly silly to shut it down for such dubious reasons.

Raga may have been a tiny department, but it meant the world to those who were in it. It has been the foremost endeavour that nudged me into the world of writing, taught me the importance of good layouts, and showed me the warmth of being surrounded by likeminded individuals.
For these very individuals, the quiet introverts and lovers of literature who have made Raga their home, I believe this department deserves another chance.
