Police officers, Firemen and Firewomen have given their lives to protecting others please protect their livelihood from any more deductions. They have earned their pensions, it has been paid for in blood, sweat, family time, real time.

I earned my pension and medical, I paid into both I've been hurt on the job more than once, just want what I was promised 25 years ago! No one wants to go into the police or fire service any more because if this, you can't blame them! God help us!

Our contact was negotiated for. We took concessions on certain issues to receive what we got. Our contracts were then voted on by the duly elected local officials in a public meeting.

This is unjust to penalize our first responders this way after their dedication and years of hard work. They are already underpaid and they should not have anymore taken away from them. They have earned their pensions fairly and to take that away would simply be unjust.

Police and fire should be the last cuts. We need quality people in these careers so they need to be paid well and they deserve a quality retirement as well.

The state has no business dictating to local units of government. My city was fiscally responsible for my whole career and it is uncontionable for the state to mandate changing benefits for retirees. Law enforcement will not attract qualified people without a decent benefit package. After 33 years in law enforcement in Michigan I left the state permanently because Mich started taxing pensions.

Negotiating contracts is a local issue and the state has no business dictating how a community attracts qualified applicants and compensates their employees. Benefit packages are the difference between having a job and having a career. The state has already penalized retired public employees by changing the law and taxing retirees income. Now they want more. They however are not effected by these changes and their benifits and pay stay intact.
