Solano County wants to received a 1.6 million dollar to fund them in an attempt to widen this rd. Unfortunately 1.6 million doesn't cover the costs of building a proper bike lane. Their goal is not to build a proper bike lane. Their idea is to add a six foot shoulder on one side and a 2 foot shoulder on the opposite side. They don't have enough money for base rock so the asphalt will be applied directly over dirt. since it's just a shoulder and not real road construction they will be applying a rumble strip between the road and shoulder. You won't be able to ride your bike on this shoulder. Given the ground conditions out here I would give this shoulder one season before it separates and cracks away from the rd. Of course to make room for this rd. Solano County is claiming 50 feet of right away on to every ones property, this allows them to move culverts, cut down trees, knock down fences. They will also be straightening out the rd. where they see fit. The end result is say goodbye to all the canopy trees that provide shade on the rd. now, and say hello to Pleasants Valley race track where speeders will be able sustain much higher speeds. This false shoulder that they are adding will also cause more animosity between the bikers and the cars, simply because cars will expect you to be on the shoulder. Help us say no to the crummy road expansion.
