I first met Katie in March 2014 when I started teaching online at Pasadena City College. Since I have known her, her dedication, skill set, professionalism, and collegiality have been exemplary. Katie was one of my favorite professors at Pasadena City College. She made a lot of effort on designing the class outline, making a lot of interesting materials, and helping students to find reading and studying interesting, I personally changed from hating reading to loving reading by adapting the ways that Katie introduced to me. I hope Pasadena City College would re-consider giving her a post so that more students would enjoy studying .

the qualities required to be a teacher. I learned a lot from her. We all know you are making a big mistake and now we are asking you to fix it and give her job back!!!!

Katie has been the point person for Distance Education pedagogy and practice at PCC. While technical skills are important, it takes a faculty member to see how those skills translate into effective online learning. Katie was given progressively more responsibility throughout her time at PCC, each time rising to the challenge. It would be a travestry for the PCC community to lose her.

The only person who regularly gave expert guidance and support for my hybrid and online courses was Katie. She saved me on several occasions when CANVAS didn't behave properly. I can't imagine why PCC would abandon her now, after her award winning work for us. I support giving Katie tenure and being loyal to the dedication she has shown our community.

Catherine [Katie] Datko is not only highly qualified and uniquely gifted, she is an extremely valuable resource in the Distance Ed world as we transition from traditional brick and mortar instruction to web-enhanced, hybrid, and fully online learning. It would be foolish and spiteful, and obviously politically motivated to deny someone like Katie tenure—someone who has contributed so much to your institution and who has been lauded and demonstratively honored by your same institution.
Katie Datko and I began our association as colleagues at CSUN in the 1990s and have since remained in contact through CATESOL and our work in DE although I am not and never have been employed by PCC.
Please reconsider this erroneous decision to deny tenure to someone so dynamic and talented who has given so much to PCC. It would be a grave injustice to Catherine and a gross error on the part of the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees to proceed with this denial blindly ignoring all that this institution has gained from Catherine’s years of effort and commitment. And flagrantly contradictory to the honors the college has bestowed upon her.
As a tax-paying resident of the San Rafael Hills of Pasadena, I find it offensive that this institution, which prides itself as one of California’s premier community colleges, would commit such an injustice to someone who has dedicated so many years of her career to bettering the instruction offered by PCC.
It’s time to reevaluate Catherine Datko’s tenure and correct all the embarrassingly obvious errors made in this tenure review. Do the right thing and support the progress of your institution by granting Katie Datko the tenure she has earned and rightfully deserves.

Katie is a caring and competent educator. There is nothing in her record that justifies a denial of tenure, when all other faculty have been granted tenure for 20 years. She has worked diligently, in sometimes quickly changing roles and shifting of departments and reorganization. She communicates with care and consideration. She is an asset to our school community. Without her efforts, PCC would be very far behind where we are today in offering online courses that are accessible and successful. We need her at this campus, and she is owed an apology.

Katie was an invaluable source of support for me in developing my online courses. Her situation is surprising to say the least and very disappointing. This situation is an example in which the "system" has failed miserably; it demonstrates the ongoing problems that PCC faces in adhering to it's own Board certified policies and procedures. Sad. Hopefully our BOT will start to pay more attention to this situation.

I first met her in the New Faculty Orientation and was inspired by her energy and knowledge about accessibility and online education. She has so many wonderful qualities that she has shared with our faculty and staff community and is a true leader in her field.

Katie Datko trained me in the best practices of online teaching 10 years ago and we have worked together many times in a true collegial collaboration. She is one of my favorite colleagues and what is happening to her is an embarrassment to the college.
