Final supporters
For years the villages of Drumoak and Durris have been linked by Park Bridge and the community created between these villages is one that all who live there are very proud of. It works as one in respect of many aspects of life; from baby and toddler groups, to running clubs, to the church community, to the bowling club, to beavers and scouts, to use of community facilities and that is really just the tip of the iceberg.
For our young people having the link between the two communities forges strong relationships which are taken forward as they grow up and for the older generations the availability of a number of different forums and groups is essential for their wellbeing.
Whilst the alternative accesses may not seem too distant on a map they are a significant detour for those living in the community. This is resulting in members of the community no longer being able to have the same access to what is on offer. Park Bridge created a link and an access which was pivotal and which enabled all the groups and facilities to be open and accessible to all. The detours involved now have removed that accessibility.
The power of community has been underestimated in our current society. Place making and community are now slowly being recognised by Councils as essential for new development. We acknowledge funding restrictions but the bigger picture needs to be considered here to prevent our place, our community - a strong and vibrant community - from being devastated by the loss of, what is for us, a key piece of infrastructure. Why not invest in protecting this when so much time is now spent trying to re-create what we had?

If Aberdeenshire council are serious about reducing air pollution and environmental issues they wouldn’t consider the permanent closure of The Park Bridge. Anyone living south of the Dee will have to drive miles out of their way to get to Drumoak and Drum. It is ridiculous.
Closing Park Bridge forces Durris residents to abandon bus travel as access to Drumoak is made more difficult. It also potentially restricts access to the Post Office as Durris residents might simply use Banchory services because of the distance involved in getting to Drumoak.
This bridge is a vital link for both communities of Durris and Drumoak, the diversion is an extra 12 miles each day. Consider the time, cost and environmental for every user multiply by n? users and this becomes significant.
I used park bridge almost daily and often crossed it 6 times within one day for work, clubs and community commitments. The closure has affected my work/childcare arrangements and many activities my family do. It would make a huge difference for it to be reinstated.
This bridge is essential to the Community link of Drumoak and Durris and all the many groups, organisations and families that rely on it. Socially, environmentally and especially now the South side has lost its public transport.
My family started using this link first when we moved into this area 30 years ago and found it extremely useful, often saving on unnecessary driving. There are too few bridges crossing the river Dee.

Please Save Bridge. It’s Loved by The Very Young and Us Older Ones Have Many Happy Memories Spent around about there Be it Snow, Rain or Picnics on Warm Sunny Days . It’s Our Heritage and May it be There for Generations To Come.
