Both my children participated in what was at the time an excellent music program at Woodland Park High School. Both were in the concert and marching bands; one also sang in the women's chorus and the Madrigals. Combining these vastly different programs will significantly reduce the value of music education in our school by diluting the excellence they have painstakingly built up over the course of years. This is a sad, disappointing, and shameful move that will have long-term repercussions in our district. Yet the district seems to have no problem finding plenty of funding for football coaches.

Please don't have a combined band/choir position. We need both a band director and choir director.

I am a Woodland Park grad, class of 1987. I was in band starting in middle school all the way through high school, when we were state marching band champions 2 times. I was also in choirs there off and on middle school through high school, including Ladies Ensemble and Madrigals. I am also a Colorado state licenses music teacher, from 1995 to the present. While there can be teachers qualified to teach both instrumental and vocal, most teach in one or the other. In a school district of Woodland's size, I believe it would best serve the students to have two separate teachers in these areas and to allow for expansion of class offerings in these areas.

My knowledge and exposure was very limited until he entered the music program. Without a true and dedicated music program, he may have never realized how much passion and dedication he has for music. He will be entering college for music!!!
