Save our View Canton is a concerned group of citizens advocating for infrastructure in downtown that does not infringe on the beautiful views and skylines of downtown Canton. Our immediate objective, and the basis for this online petition, is to halt an active county plan for a massive parking garage positioned directly behind the historic marble courthouse building. As presently proposed, this structure would ruin iconic views of the courthouse and negatively alter the ambience of the heart of downtown. It would infringe upon the tranquility of the adjacent Riverview Cemetery, and severely hinder the operation of the cemetery, especially during the construction phase. It would also place the Arts Center (the former First United Methodist Church) building into peril.
This plan was publicly introduced at a very late phase, and is being fast tracked to approval and funding. We know there is need for parking, but we want the right form to be proposed and created. We don't want to lose our small town charm, a pillar of the downtown revitalization that has taken place.

I really thought this might just be a slow burn but the way people are jumping in now is honestly incredible. It is wild to see so many of you caring about how this garage completely ruins the vibe near the courthouse and the cemetery. I need to take a breathe because I truly did not think we would have this kind of energy behind us so quickly.

The proposal of a 7-story parking deck located between the beautiful, historic marble Courthouse, the Art Center & Riverview Cemetery is atrocious! The former Library location site would be better utilized and would serve all of downtown Canton.
This monstrous parking deck would not only block some historic structures in our downtown area, it would destroy the "small town" ambiance that exists today. Please find an area that would be hidden from Main Street visitors.
With relatives buried in Riverview and as a third generation Cantonian who grew up in the former Canton First Methodist Church building, I am very opposed to putting a monstrous, overwhelming parking deck behind the white marble courthouse. We need the parking, but there has to be better place for it!
A re-design of this parking deck is imperative. Canton's special smalltown visual character will be seriously impacted. Take a look at the way the Atlanta History Center in Buckhead has dealt with their parking. Much more sensitive to the surroundings.
This will totally change the landscape of our beautiful town. What about an underground deck... something less obtrusive? I believe this will be the end of any future movie /tv filmings if we lose the look of our downtown, and that’s lost revenue for our beautiful city and county. There has to be a better solution!
please do not build that parking garage in downtown canton that will be nothing but an ugly eye sore.
This cemetery is very important to our family and the community. Our family plots are there and it is going to be my final resting place. Please don't hide it behind a parking garage

Please don't put a large parking deck behind the old marble courthouse. My family, my husbands' family and eventually my husband and I will be buried in Riverview Cemetery. Please don't make it hard to get to. Keep the historic value of our lovely downtown area.
