Save our Special Needs School!

1,178 Signatures Goal: 1,000

Secret Ravine School partners with the schools throughout the county to serve students with varying disabilities from three to age 22. Secret Ravine School houses students in three separate buildings, Secret Ravine School, Sierra Vista School and Onorato Educational Center. Secret Ravine School serves the Severe Multiple Disabilities and Behavior Intensive students high school through age 22. Sierra Vista School serves the Emotionally Disturbed students 4th grade through high school. Onorato Educational Center serves the Severe Multiple Disabilities students ages 3 through 15.

These schools are specifically designed for the special children with all of the right equipment and adaptive play structures. Parents drive happily, from all over Placer County so that their children can enjoy a safe school specialized for them.

Recently, the parents were sent home with a letter stating that Placer County Office of Education has decided to sell their school to a local school with overcrowding and that the children's school would not be replaced. The children will be split up to local regular schools that are not specially designed for their medical needs. The parents are extremely worried and want to save the school for their very special children.

Please help sign this petition to show local support for them. Please help send a message that the county should build a new school for the growing community and not take the only special school these kids have in the area. Please Help!

We plan to read your comments at the board meeting this Thursday to make your voice heard.

My brother and his family have always raved about this school and how important it has been in their lives. They have inspired me with their love for their children and their ability to live life to the full even with the burdens of a special needs child, but taking away this school would create hardship upon hardship. So many people need to know their voice is heard and their children are cared for and are more than just a number. This school does that for them and for many other families, please reconsider the importance of this school in the community.

I know how important accommodations for special needs are. We need people to support these gifted children so they can become the people they know they are! Caregivers and teachers are incredible for what they do and should have all the resources they need and that is why this is so important! Please sign!

I am deeply concerned about the closing of the PCOE schools. A few years ago I'd heard that this was in the works so I'm not surprised but I am very concerned. My son spent 6 years at Secret Ravine and Sierra Vista. He went to these schools because he was not successful in a regular classroom. Had it not been for the amazing teachers and staff at Sierra Vista, he would not have graduated high school. PCOE is making a disastrous mistake by closing the 3 schools. The regular schools in Placer County are not equipped in any way to handle the students that will be displaced. The majority of special day classes lack dedicated bathrooms or even water. Please do not close Secret Ravine, Sierra Vista and Onorato.

These kids matter. They are more than dollars and decimals. An environment that is safe, challenging and comfortable is needed for these kids to grow and thrive. Taking away their specialized school with the needed accessibility will be detrimental and affect the entire community.

My stepson has autism and requires full ABA programs and so do the children in his class. Disability doesn't just go away. They must have more rights because they have special needs!

Our children are out future even the ones with special needs. Let us be able to reach them through teaching them in school.

These kids deserve a quality education that includes everything that they require and need. Those in charge need to make every decision for these kids as if their children were in this special needs school with special needs friends.
