SAVE OUR SCHOOL:

Less than 72hrs after Immaculate Conception School figureheads FIRST EVER direct discussion with faculty and parents about the risk of school closure due to the school's financial strain on the Diocese and low enrollment, the ICS Pastor and Diocese of Metuchen send email to parents about the school's imminent closure.

We are asking you, Bishop Checchio, to reverse this decision.

Allow us this fairness. Allow us this opportunity to prove to you what we all know and feel and can achieve now, together. Transparency is crucial to our survival which our ICS figureheads have not given us. Give us that now and moving forward.

If you don't promote the school...HOW WILL THE STUDENTS COME?

If you don't allow a bus...HOW WILL THE STUDENTS COME?

If you don't have community events...HOW WILL THE STUDENTS COME?

If you don't have strong marketing efforts...HOW WILL THE STUDENTS COME?

If the top advocates of our school don't positively advocate for our school...HOW WILL THE STUDENTS COME?

If you don't allow us transparency...HOW CAN THE ICS COMMUNITY HELP?

Again, please reevaluate your decision to close ICS. Help make this right. The commitment of the ICS community to support our school is strong. I know a petition doesn't lead to enrollment, not tomorrow, but awareness of a rebuild does! The faculty and ICS families are willing to meet with you to discuss things further.

Don't fail us. Don't allow another Catholic school to be cast in to oblivion and its students, faculty, and families left in devastation.

It's not just the faculty and staff whose hearts you have broken...

IT'S THE HEARTS OF LITTLE CHILDREN.

***The outpouring of support for our cause has been incredible. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you! Please do not donate to the site, as it does not go to our cause. Simply share the petition with your friends and family and spread the word about this important effort. If you've already signed our petition, please leave another comment. Again, thank you for your love and support and for standing up for ICS.***

AS PREVIOUSLY POSTED:

Immaculate Conception School, Spotswood has fostered over 60 years of excellence in outstanding academics. The devoted teachers and staff are committed to the growth and development of each and every student while promoting a value-oriented learning environment.

As of yesterday, April 1, 2025, we have been informed that the Diocese of Metuchen is strongly considering closing the doors of our beloved school permanently (after this current school year) due to declining enrollment and financial difficulties.

This petition calls for the Diocese of Metuchen Office of Schools and Bishop James F. Checchio to allow ICS to remain the center of the local community.

Due to the timing of this potential announcement, as well as lack of transparency and efforts of the Diocese and school figureheads as questioned by the faculty, staff, and school families, we are asking for you to reevaluate your decision to possibly close ICS.

Please allow the ICS family ample time to lobby for Immaculate Conception School’s growth and rebuild by encouraging increase in admissions and fundraising for the school.

Bishop Checchio is ignoring us so we need to hit one hundred signatures right now to prove this community refuses to be silenced. Do not let the Diocese think they can kill our school without a fight.

Immaculate Conception is a wonderful school. All the teachers here have dedicated themselves to the students and Catholic Education. I have loved teaching all my students over the years from PreK to 8th grade. Immaculate is a very special place. It would be a shame for it to close.

My husband's family has fond memories of attending Immaculate Conception. We planned on enrolling our 2 year old daughter once she was old enough for pre-k. I hope a sincere effort is put into saving the school so our young and growing family has a chance to attend.

Please keep ICS open, it is a wonderful school with caring teachers and staff. My son attended from K-8, his 2017 graduating class was the largest in many years. Hoping the Diocese gives ICS the opportunity to increase their enrollment so it can thrive at that level again.

The leadership at the diocese is, in my view, not up for the task at hand. There is little to no transparency in dealing with them and certainly no business acumen. Too many schools are closing under the “Catholic” watch. New leadership teams need to be installed.

Maybe parents can pay a small Perry of their income just to get the enrollment back up. It’s expensive. And maybe have retired teachers donate their time 2 or 3 days a week educating these students. We have to live local and use our community to Build Our Community ❤️

My son loves this school. The teachers and staff are wonderful. Its a beautiful location with so much potential. Think about what happens if this school shuts down. What will happen if the property gets sold. We do not need another apartment complex built in its place.

I didn’t attend here, I attended St Stans in Sayreville, but I remember cheering at basketball games here. ICS had an amazing cheer team, they always placed at cheer competitions. It would be such a shame to see this school close

I hope it stays open. St Aloysius closed in Jackson a several years ago. We need school choice to keep them open.
