30 years ago the Parish Council had the foresight to sign up to a specific twinning arrangement between Newby & Scalby and the medieval French town of Pornic.
Over the years this connection has benefited the local economy and been enjoyed by many parishioners.
The people of Pornic highly value this relationship.
There is even a traditional red phone box in the centre of their town donated by Scalby & Newby.
The Nags Head in Scalby displays a copy of the original twinning charter signed by some of your fellow councillors.
Please vote to maintain this historic and cultural link which is officially supported by the local authority in Pornic whose mayor has extended including an invitation to your chairman to be his guest when SANTA members make a return visit to Pornic next year.

The momentum behind this fight is undeniable now. The Councillors can no longer ignore the fact that our community refuses to let them discard our history with Pornic.

I have been an enthusiastic member of the jumelage for 18 years, and it would be a sad day if council support for the link between the two towns was lost.
I am very disappointed to see this item on the agenda; the Parish Council should be looking at ways of enhancing the twinning NOT stopping it. Twinning over the years has enabled many people from both Scalby / Newby and Pornic to be lifelong friends. The input from Pornic and support they receive from their local council it exemplary and whilst a small Parish council cannot match that it should at least continue to offer its full support. Santa has been a success because of the volunteers that plan and coordinate the group, I struggle to see what input (apart from a small drinks reception alternate years) the Parish Council have made to its success. It is imperative that the twinning continues (with or without PC support) but it would be good to have them on board.
As a founder member of the Twinning Association, the arrangement with Pornic has contributed to make Scalby and Newby a better, more rounded and tolerant place to live. As the area expands we should be looking to encourage and expand this link for the benefit of the whole community.
I think that the PC should continue to be involved; due to the pleasure and interest that it gives to people. Also the revenue that the Twinning brings to the local area.
I have been a Newby resident since 1971 and participated in the very first twinning between us and Pornic. I am disappointed to see that the Parish Council is considering ending its involvement in the almost 30 year link between the two areas and am confused as to why this is even an agenda item. Many local residents have formed strong friendships with people from Pornic over the past two or three decades which have helped forge a bond between the two communities. I feel it is vital that the Parish Council continues to support the twinning and hope you decide to continue the relationship, especially with the 30 year anniversary coming up.

The support of N & S PC is of great importance to the Pornic connection. Why? Because it adds dignity and gravitas. The withdrawal of formal support could be seen by some as a snub to our French friends. Scalby Fair supports Pornic and welcomes the support of the French for our Fair every other year
