The Rec Center construction is just another instance in the long line of how NKU administration doesn't give consideration to students. First, for funding they hike tuition for students who will NEVER see the finished product as actual students (but we can pay $240 a year after we graduate...plus $25 for a parking permit...and don't forget the required $50 donation to the Alumni Association), then the move is made to outsource the staff and cut jobs from students, including one of my own fraternity brothers. I think it truly makes us a laughing stock at how our tuition money is being managed by those in Lucas Administrative Center. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was always led to believe universities were made for the advancement of students

The NKU Campus Rec. Center is a family. It's successful because of the community feel the moment you step in the door. The students who check you in may have been in your English class freshman year or are in your sorority or fraternity. Our facility hasn't ever been known as extravagant or the best around as far as gyms go; our facilities have nothing to do with our Rec's success. It's the people. It's the way our pro staff make it painless and affordable for student groups to rent out facilities for private events. It's the familiarity and friendly feel of working out around and under the supervision of people you know and see on a daily basis around campus. The Rec's success has done its fair share in earning the University a renovated extravagant facility to be opened this Fall. Why should this facility voted for and being paid for our students be given the chance to become a corporate entity? Our university is enough of a business already; I know this because of the amount of zeros I accept in loans every year. We don't need our Campus Rec to become a place where the people working and running it have never stepped foot in an NKU classroom or have no idea what it's like to walk into the Rec Center your freshman year and recognize six people that were in your Orientation group. Our community feel at the Rec is important to its success and our student staff and professional staff have been a huge part of that. With that being said please help our students by signing a petition to keep our Campus Rec management within the University to maintain and build upon the family we already have whether that's through our student staff, professional staff, Alumni and Faculty members. #SaveOurRec #NKU

The rec center is included in students tuition and offers all NKU students a way to be healthy and fit without spending more of our limited personal funds. It also offers jobs to students who need to work on campus and have flexible hours. It feel it should stay that way.

I cannot pay for a gym membership. This is included in my tuition, I would like it to stay that way. A huge number of students will lose their college jobs because of this. Most of these workers are my dear friends who need these jobs to pay for school.

I was part of the original SGA Senate that voted to implement the Rec Fee in order to pay for the new Rec Center. It dissapoints me to hear that the administration would even think to outsource the campus recreation center after students have already been paying for the new Rec Center for years.
