Aesthetics is not an absolute but a relative concept. Who is to say the Planning Committee are correct and the numerous folk who have signed this are wrong? Fifteen years ago when I moved here there were 5 pubs close by. Now there remain just two. The remaining ones need local Council support and not unnecessary bureaucratic interference. Let this pergola remain or let the Committee explain in clear terms what is wrong with it, without any hint of personal preference.

I'm all for planning control when it makes sense, but West Berks seem to see as their mission to be as obstructive as they possibly can on the spurious grounds of 'conservation'. Surely the council should be bending over backwards to help businesses, especially in rural areas? It's about time the councillors applied a pointy stick to some bums in the planning department and reminded them that they are here to serve the council tax payers not their planning text books.

It’s great and great for winter for some outside space. Tastefully done and heating and decorations. The pub is fab.

Planning departments lack the insight that is needed to maintain small communities, this is an extremely valuable asset to the community and it would be very shortsighted and narrow minded of them to object to a great facility that benefits all and brings much needed finance into the area, open your eyes please planners and do some good things with your authority instead of being so negative.

It’s a delightful addition. I’m an architect and looking after our built environment and valuing our heritage is of paramount.l importance. I fully support retaining this addition. The most important issue then is great maintenance.

This is a lovely space and sensitively designed. It was fantastic during Covid and remains a great space now. It should be allowed to remain.
