The council has finally backed down and given us the green light to keep the pergola. It has been a long and draining fight but seeing it stay makes the struggle worth it. We are going to keep our eyes on the planning process moving forward to make sure it …

During the pandemic, we ploughed hard earnt money into creating a safe space for all the community to use, creating an indoors but outdoors approach. This has been an extremely viable addition to our business and helps all our guests enjoy a space that caters for all along with ensuring we can remain afloat after the toughest few years. With covid on the rise again we are proud we can offer this additional space and are thankful we have this to offer and hopefully protect our business from becoming another lost statistic and help ensure all our team members remain in jobs. Those who have seen it and used it will know it is built from the highest quality materials including wood and glass with composite decking, all which blend into its natural environment. We feel this is truly a great addition to the look of the pub and the village. A nearby pub has recently had similar planning passed under the basis it was for a village shop despite being under similar conservation rules. Unfortunately we are battling with West Berkshire council planning department over the future of it. Conservation doesn’t feel it fits in, they asked us to paint it black and when we questioned it, they rejected. We would like to point out this was wasted car park space and the structure is freestanding and we have not lost any car parking facilities. We face losing it but need your help. If you would like to see our safe space remain please sign below.
Thank-you for the continued support

We hit 250 signatures today and it is exhausting to keep fighting this council but seeing your names helps me stay focused. I have been staring at these planning documents for hours and feeling drained but your support reminds me why I started this.

More outside seating that's weatherproof and covid safe for those who are still covid cautious or vulnerable is so important for wellbeing and it's been well thought out.. and isn't permanent

It’s a delightful addition. I’m an architect and looking after our built environment and valuing our heritage is of paramount.l importance. I fully support retaining this addition. The most important issue then is great maintenance.

The outdoor covered space does not create any issues with access or parking, looks in keeping with the pub, its garden and the surrounding village, and helps to keep the pub open and operating successfully as a local asset of community value.

It’s essential that this is maintained to ensure the pub remains viable and in case of any future resurgence’s of COVID or similar emergency . The pub throughout the pandemic were a lifeline for much of the village and should not be penalised for doing what was needed then and still is now !

This space is great and I have enjoyed it several times. Painting it black is absurd and actually would make it stand out more. Please see reason let it stay as it is.

This structure enabled us to visit a pub and feel safe during the pandemic, when there was little else we were able to do, it was nice to have some semblance of normality to go out for a drink or bite to eat. Martin, Liam and the rest of the team work so hard to ensure customers have a great visit.
