Children with severe and complex needs require staff who are qualified to support them. Not only is this important for the children but also it is important for the staff to have been trained appropriately when in this kind of employment.

scandalus, the kids are going to be the ones that will suffer through this , I have a special needs teenager & throughout her schooling she had a nursery nurse care assistant , without the support from these lovely caring ppl, the kids will become withdrawn and their learning will be age extend as well as their social behaviour !

This can't be allowed to happen. These staff are vital to the kids. Too late for the Asd classes in Blackburn primary our nursery nurses were taken away without our knowledge and replaced with teaching assistants. Can only think it's one of a number of reasons why my daughter is struggling in school this year x

As a relative to a child with complex needs, I know only too well how needed these nursery nurses are needed, wanted and loved by our children. These children need to feel safe a secure anti hand the staff. They need familiarity. To replace with " teaching assistants is insane!!! You wouldn't replace a trained nurse in a nursing home or hospital with an assistant for your elderly parent who has needs so do not put out kids through unnessacery deprivation of care!!

I understand cut backs are necessary, however speaking as a qualified professional myself, I think this is a truly horrible idea. All children, particularly those with additional needs and care requirements, need an environment in which they can strive, learn and develop where they feel safe - and speaking from experience- need a familiar adult, in whom they can confide. In this situation trained professionals are essential, please don't make these children and families suffer, as part of a cut back.

Can't do without nursery nurses for our children. School is a struggle for a lot of our kids and the work nursery nurses along with teachers and support staff is second to none ,they are so needed to help our kids reach their full potential
