Those children rely on these members of staff who do an amazing job , why disrupt the kids by changing it

I would like the people from the council to swap jobs with the nursery nurses for a week and I'm
sure they wouldn't last the week and complain about the conditions!

This is terrible what they are doing to nursery nurses I was out on strike 11 years ago for better pay I worked in a special needs schoolNursery Nurses are highly trained and know there job inside out and the council do not know what they are doing to replace them with teaching Assistants is un believable Special Needs is a specialised field of teaching I wish you well in your battle and I hope that you win it

Nursery nurses and teaching assistants have very different training and qualifications, as they carry out different roles within our schools. A nursery nurse learns about all areas of development and developmental theory - cognitive, emotional, physical and social - and so has a greater knowledge of how children develop and learn. To remove the nursery nurses from these children is doing them a great disservice. Teaching assistants do a great job within our schools, but a child at nursery needs the appropriate staff and support- no matter the child's abilities or stage of development.

Yet again, councils choose the seemingly easy option to save money by cutting educational services from one of the must vulnerable groups by targeting nursery nurses.
As a teacher and one who taught at Pinewood for over 6 years, it is important to work as part of a multi disciplinary team in order to fully support and educate our young people, so that they become valuable contributors to our society.
Nursery nurses offer skills, qualities and training that enhance the whole educational experience of the young person, so that teachers can get on with the job of teaching!
They compliment the whole package of educational resources and offer experiences that develop and stimulate children so that the classroom experience is more beneficial.
Nursery nurses have specific training, knowledge and understanding that sadly classroom assistants don't necessarily have.
Nursery nurses make a commitment to this specialist training. It is a vocation not a job.
Teaching assistants are not of the same calibre and don't have the same skills, knowledge, professionalism or cognitive understanding of the pupils needs.
To cut nursery nurses from these positions further erodes and demeans the whole education profession as a whole.
Whilst I accept that some T.A's are good and provide a valuable service it is not nearly enough.
It is important that we invest now in our children so that we can f
significantly reap the rewards in the future. That is more cost effective.
Quality of education should never be jeapordised in the quest to balance the books.
The education profession has already over these last years been battered beyond recognition.
Enough is enough.
