Why is it viable to send so many buses to Barton that are rarely full and yet to send just one bus an hour to Risinghurst is not viable?

Properly subsidise buses. Put the money wasted on the LTNs + ZEZs to the buses instead. Make them regular and reliable (and perhaps smaller). That would be 'brave' of the council.

I would also like to add that meanwhile The Oxford Bus Company is maintaining an hourly service which is a far cry from adequacy following Stagecoach's decision to withdrawn it's services. However we are grateful that the services have not been withdrawn entirely.
There should of been much more notice by Stagecoach of this withdrawal, and notices placed by the company at relevant stops in view of notifying people who do not have internet where this was the only placed the withdrawal was publicised with very short notice.

The '9' bus service that until recently has been operated by the Oxford Bus Company and in conjunction of Stagecoach providing a half hourly service to the Risinghurst estate. Pre-Covid was used with much higher numbers of passenger including those going to and from work, the elderly, disabled and those less able bodies than some.
It has always been a lifeline to those who need to make use of it. It is not safe to expect persons to use other bus services to near by locations, followed by a lengthly walk across very busy carriageway's which are either very poorly lit, fast moving traffic flows which is impossible for someone elderly/disabled to negotiate in a safe manner.
In the past Risinghurst has had to argue why it should gain a half hourly service. The '9' service has also every opportunity to allow passenger's to embark/disembark from every bus stop along it's route through Headington on the London Road towards the city centre, and the same along it's return journey's.
With this in view of none or little consultations within the community prior to it's withdrawal, and also in view that there are underused bus services operating near by, it seems that to fund these has made Risinghurst a target for having it's services restricted.
I would urge that Oxford Bus Company alongside Stagecoach together with local councillors, and MP's arrange a meeting with the Risinghurst Community Association so that the residents of Risinghurst can ask their questions and see if we can come to an alernative agreement as to how this service can be maintained, and reconstructed to a sutainable level where both companies can make the Risinghurst '9' service once again viable by whatever means necessary.
Even if another service is diverted from elsewhere to cover the half hourly timetable.
I have e-mailed the local councillors amongst other parties, however with no response. Those concerned will know who they are.

OK, I don't live in Risinghurst, but I know where it is and can't imagine living there without an adequate bus service. It's a dangerous walk to alternative bus routes and of course impossible for the less mobile residents.

Could be tied in at times to the Number 8 Barton bus if necessary I have already written in this vein

I use the 9 to get to work and back and it’s very frustrating to be paying the same high fares for a half as good service.

This is an essential service and relied upon by many. Recent government promises have been to increase public services including transport. Cancelling the number 9 bus would be a step in the opposite direction. It would also influence more people to travel by car, arnt Oxfordshire council aiming to be the first green city? This would be far from assisting it’s people to make greener choices.

I fully support this petition. My family is dependent on the bus service and for my wife and daughter to have to walk back to Risinghurst from Barton in the evenings is dangerous.
