Please reconsider the decision to shutdown Bear Creek Lake’s Rocketry Club.
This club is the only one in Denver area. It inspires youth into STEM careers like Lockheed Martin down the road. Our community scouts and schools rely on this club. Each year our 59+ scouts, siblings, and parents all partner with Colorado Rocketry Association of Space Hobbyists to have fun with rockets. While recruiting scouts each year one of the main points I use that lure kids into this fantastic servant leadership program is “How would you like to build and launch a rocket hundreds of feet in the air?” While most attending from our organization launch smaller rockets, every time we have attended we have been able to witness very large rockets being launched. Some have been complete failures which is sad for the owner but exciting for kids. Our family has personally attended for the past 3 years and at all times everyone and the area has been kept safe. Please note there are many other groups just like ours that rely on this club each year and have similar stories. Since this is a one of kind facility, we will be forced to tell our kids we cannot do rockets this year. We like to over deliver and under promise so this will be a huge let down to our group.

As a youth, I loved building and launching rockets at a near by park. These days all parks and local areas ban such fun. It is great that Lakewood community supports this club as it provides one of the few safe places to inspire youth with rockets. This club runs a great program and I am very impressed by the field and folks that volunteer their time to help youth do something constructive and fun. I have worked at Lockheed Martin for most of my career. I encourage my kids toward similar STEM careers with this rocket club, attending Young Minds at Work to see satellites being assembled, and playing Kerbal Space Program. We need to continue to find creative ways to inspire our youth like this club.

I am biased, I learned rocketry at this club and liked it so much that I agreed to be there for every launch since 2011 (I missed 2 for conferences, but I thought that the fire risk would have caused them to be cancelled anyway).

I've launched many times here. Always safe, fun, and inclusive. Denver needs more communities like this. Don't kick them out of the park.

Launching model rockets with my dad inspired me to become a rocket scientist. I have been planning to introduce my young son to this hobby, too, assuming that a location in the greater Denver area was available. I am extremely dismayed that this is the last site, and that it is ceasing its support.

I was very happy to find this club when I moved to Denver in 2009. The club members are the most caring people I have ever met. The have supported the local community and have influenced many young people in a positive way. C.R.A.S.H. is excellent at policing themselves and do not allow launches when there is a fire danger and will not allow unsafe rockets fly. In addition, they are prepared to extinguish a fire should one happen. I hope that the park reconsiders the closing of the launch site. It will be a loss to the community.

Our boys and their scout buddies love launching rockets. We’ve gone the past 3 years and we were so sad to hear this program was ending. CRASH has done such a great job with the launches not only keeping the scouts and others safe but also making sure the conditions are safe for a launch. We have had to reschedule when fire danger was high. They do an amazing job and we’d love the program to continue.

There is nothing inherently in conflict with a well run model rocket launch and a public park.

I am always sorry to hear of a government property, paid with tax dollars, that is being "shut off" from public use. 1) If safety is the concern, bring in NASA, astronauts are always available for visiting, public appearances. 2) News, TV, Radio (This American Life, NPR, local Human interest stories...) 3) Do not make it a confrontation, make it easy for the Parkpeople to correct their misunderstanding.4) Other interested people? Civil Air Patrol. Show "OCTOBER SKY" and invite Homer Hickam, Jr. to attend or at least write a letter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homer_Hickam 5) Safety? Speak to the local fire department about "reasonable" preventive arrangements. 6) Noise? Disturbing other Park Patrons? That can be figured out, if the public hew and cry is sufficient. Parks are often used for exciting, noisy events. Ready for launch.....

30 years they have been doing this. It should be allowed to continue. It's good wholesome fun for all.

Rocket launches that are well organized and run like CRASH serve an important community need and promote STEM interest in youth. Shutting that down is very short sighted. CRASH only launches once or twice a month. Serve all the community - including future rocket and space scientists!

CRASH was instrumental to our freshman project at CU Boulder, and they are more than deserving a suitable place to share the passion and joy of Rocketry in a safe manner.

This is a fantastic resource for the Denver metro area and it's one focused on our kids. Let's figure out how to put our kids first as they explore the fields of STEM.
