As a District 12 alumni and now district parent to two young children, I believe the presence of a full time librarian like Mrs. Herr is incredibly important to their school career and learning success. My daughter already speaks highly of the time she spends with the Mrs. Herr. The cost of the loss of this valuable professional and resource would be too great.

It would be a serious detriment to the culture of Skyway Elementary to lose our Media Specialist! Mrs. Herr not only possesses the skills and education to support teachers and students, she also connects with them. This connection is what sparks literary interest in the students and is an extremely valuable resource to the teaching staff and parents at Skyway. I hope the School Board does what’s right and votes against eliminating the Media Specialist position.

School library media specialists focus on activities that enhance student achievement. It would be tragic to see this missing from our elementary schools.

This is crazy! Mrs. Herr has been essenitial to the progress my dyslexic child has improved! She provides encouragement and assistance technology could never replace!

Some might think this is due to budget cuts, but it is my understanding that this proposal will actually cost the district more. The fact that Skyway Elementary is a Title One school means that they will be affected beyond compare by this plan. I truly hope the board can consider this (not already have made up their minds) and allow the school to do what's best for our children.
Perhaps the great success of some charter schools throughout the U.S can be attributed to them not having to be part of these blanket policies. What might work well for one school in a district can potentially damage another??
