I like my home phone and no desire to get rid of it. Many older people do not have mobile phones, and do not understand and get on with new technology.

Wired connections are safer, more effective, and less harmful to Public Health and Environment. Analogue Copper Landlines will also continue to function during a Power Cut. In other words, they are Life Lines.

Why?

It's crucial to maintain landline services for health, freedom, security, inclusivity reasons. Loss of this service would be a severe undermining of our freedom.

We need to keep analogue infrastructure for privacy, use at our own will & emergencies

If the internet fails so does our ability to communicate.

The copper lines analogue network is essential to to many people as a way of having a secular non-internet method of telecommunication, the maintenance costs of existing copper lines is far smaller than the often un-called for roll out of fibre and for many hasn't been done a national or local consolation. The humble, efficient and environmentally superior nature of copper analogue networks is all many need to communicate (calls, texts and small packet data) and do not want to partake in what has become a coercive 'cult' that is fibre-broadband and IOT. This vital base-level artery for communication MUST be protected.

And not just the older generation. There are people of all ages who are Electro Hyper-sensitive and there are people of all ages who don't want to use more and more complex technology or technology which, however convenient, harms our health, which wireless gadgets do.....

Well said! Corporations are putting themselves and the Public first. Governments should of course intervene, but they are in cahoots with the industry. Of course, getting everyone onto fiber will mean that a Power Cut denies connection. What a potential Power Grab!

Copper lines are vital for the safety and social well-being of older people who have no need or desire for the internet. Corporations need to SERVE the public better instead of serving themselves and their own agendas.

I have a landlines and need to keep it as it is a needed to contact my family, friends and all services in my day to day life. Not everyone needs, wants or can afford hand held mobile devices.

Once again not thinking of the older Generation .For God's sake have you no morals . Stop thinking everyone does technology

It's an infringement of our rights to choose our means of communication to propose ending access to standard landline phones. I know many people who do not have Internet & less people are able to afford it now. Many are concerned about the adverse effects of Electromagnetic frequency waves & it is ethically & morally wrong to coerce people to use a technology that they are not comfortable with. We must maintain access to traditional landlines and the right to choose them.

A much needed resource in so many ways

There are so many of us who choose wired technology. I do have WiFi and a mobile phone but choose to turn them off at night , we are electromagnetic beings and affected by such frequencies. By making phone connections internet based would mean I would not have phone access overnight. I know of many who are so sensitive to various frequencies that they rely totally on a wired connection where would this proposterous proposal leave them.

The environmental credentials of copper lines at 54v is also far superior to the VOIP counterpart. I now use public call boxes to help them out. £1.20 for a whole hour !
