Unless the town of Oak Bluffs plans to replace these signs with town sponsored ones the sights should stay as a marker to African-American history.

I live on Chappy, and think this a great way to acknowledge and celebrate the diverse history of Martha's Vineyard. I encourage the Selectmen & Sign Committee to approve these signs.

I frequently visit and stay at the seaview. The polar aerobics friends are wonderful people they invited me in open arms an I look forward to it every year.

This sign recognizes the uniqueness of the Inkwell Beach tradition. The iconic photograph rapidly became a tourist attraction after it was placed. Moreover, it celebrates the Polar Bears' all inclusive attitude and devotion to community. These are much needed in today's divisive world. I do not fathom the naysayers in our government. Their objection to this sign speaks to being severely out of touch with the sentiments of a major part of our community. I urge our elected officials to listen to the public and think "big picture" thoughts that form community, rather than make tedious arguments that fail to serve the public. The posting of this sign should be celebrated, not debated.

Please allow The Inkwell Beach signs to remain on the beach. I participated in a polar bear dip at Inkwell beach summer of 2016 and throughly enjoyed the lovely town of Oak Bluffs. Martha' s Vineyard is full of so much history!

Inkwell Beach and its community are a historic phenomenon with resonance across this country. The site, and the Polar Bears, have been recognized by inclusion in the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The Polar Bears are a testament to the strength of an enduring, self-organized community and support the feel of continuity, sense of place and history to Oak Bluffs. Let the sign stay (and perhaps add a historical marker!)
