Don't close Peaks Ice Arena!!!! It's a wonderful place to spend time with my family while teaching them a new skill! Plus all of the hockey games and ice skating lessons held there are an added asset to the community! Closing this amazing venue would be a shame and a detriment to our youth and adults alike. We love spending time there!

The hockey leagues are great, along with figure skating, public skate, soccer, and private functions like birthday parties. And let's not forget that BYU and UVU hockey teams play there.

Utahns were convinced to host the Olympics with the promise that the venues would be available to us and be a permanent part of our communities after the Olympics. Peaks Arena is a great asset to Utah County. Closing it would not only break the promise made to Utah citizens, it would also leave a hole in the community and reduce the opportunities for recreation in Utah County. I understand that not all Utah County citizens use Peaks, but not all citizens use the parks and trails and other recreation facilities either. Salt Lake County faced a similar situation when considering whether to close the Salt Lake County Equestrian Center and decided to keep it open because it fills a recreational need that couldn't be met otherwise. Peaks Arena falls into that same category. Please keep it open.

As a former player, that had to play on the rink at Utah Lake with no other options available at the time, not funding and supporting the Peaks rink will be devastating to hockey in Utah Valley as no other local option exists.

We are absolutely appalled by Utah County's decision. We have 2 figure skaters in our family which are using this rink daily and this rink is a big part of our life!

It is with great sadness that I have learned that Utah County is thinking of terminating its lease with the Provo Ice Rink. We're not talking about saving money by avoiding some risky new development such as a brand new Convention Center or subsidized Hotel. We are talking about throwing away an over seven million dollar asset that has been a great resource for the county for the past decade and a half since the 2002 Olympics. This seems very foolish in my mind. The Rink has already been renovated and refurbished so I don't see how this issue is a matter of concern about immediate ongoing expenditures.
Provo Olympic Ice Rink is a unique venue which offers Utah County residents much in terms of education, sports, recreation, community involvement, and national awareness. It is the only ice rink within affordable reach of most of Utah County as well as southern Utah residents. It provides an opportunity for skaters and hockey players across the country to compete at a local venue. The hosting of local and out of state competitions provides added tourism from competitors, judges and referees. The rink provides a locus for involvement with clubs such as the US Figure Skating Club and all the programs, training, and scholarships such national organizations provide.

The community relies so much on this rink. These kids need this outlet and it's not fair to just take it away from them. 75% of the people that use that rink are not from Provo they are from Utah County you guys elected officials need to make sure it stays available to them.
