we need all the ice rinks we can get in utah. if one closes down, it affects those players in each area. i peraonally wouldnt want to drive somewere extra for an ice rink

Maybe they could take on some other partners Like the Y, or UVU - Work study programs for student aid could offset some labor cost, park and rec. degree internship programs etc... There is a huge benefit to the community to keep the facility running and open.

The rink has been a huge part of our life for the past ten plus years. My daughter is a figure skater and practices there 3x per week. My other kids love to skate also, and my husband has played indoor soccer their too. We currently live in Springville, and chose that location based on proximity to the rink. It would be so sad to see it shut down, as it serves so many people in the area.

This is a top notch facility that gets a lot of use from different segments of the community. So I'm unclear why there is a problem in finding finding for this facility. Figure it out.

The commission's argument essentially boils down to they can't afford to give every city a recreation center and so they want to back out of their agreement. This is the same thinking that brought us "every kid gets a trophy". However, this doesn't imply that the other cities aren't winners, but we are all blessed greatly by this facility. The majority who come are not from Provo. This is a county facility, not a Provo facility. It is about the only place for indoor winter recreation, including soccer. Folks in northern Utah county can go to ice facility in Draper or the 3 in Salt Lake County or come to Provo. They have options. For those in south Utah county, eliminating this facility results in no reasonable option, especially for the disadvantaged youth who are concentrated largely nearby. Also, this is a historic facility and important to maintain as we look to another bid for the winter Olympics in future years.
