A coach is supposed to be someone our children look up to...a mentor, someone to look back on and remember who taught them that one thing they will never forget. They are there to teach self discipline and correct when necessary NOT to be belittled and abused. How has this been allowed to get this far?????

Harassment from the athletic department has been going on for years at this high school. Coaches are allowed to bully and harass students and when parents speak up about it, it is swept under the rug with threats for negative repercussions. The good ole' boy network needs a clean sweep in this community.

And Kimberly I am to assume by your comment that if your 16 year old was physically attacked by an adult man, you would just tell him to suck it up. Your momma ain't here to cry too.

I for one can attest that my child is not only respectful but one of the toughest. He makes good grades and gives 100% on the field. Your comments on Military are correct but my child has not signed up for the military so he should not be treated as such. He has just turned 16 and does not deserve to be disrespected by an adult. And until he turns 18 and is considered an adult he will be treated as a child and I will do whatever necessary to protect him. He will not be told by you or anyone else to suck it up. That is a promise. Lastly my child is a freshman is about to start dual enrollment. Don't seem as if I am failing as a parent, But am raising a smart, respectful, hard working, non criminal man.

I agree a meeting would be amazing. I also agree the coaches are not all to blame which is why the petition states part of the problem is on the coaches. But an adult coach who can not control is mouth or hands is on that Coach. He is an adult. Part of these players are as young as13,14,15 year olds.

I am a DeSoto High Graduate and am sad to see such decline in the schools and administion. It depresses me to even hear about the troubles DeSoto School district is having they are not able to keep staff happy and classes over limit so I guess now they are just filling slots with whatever staff they can find. The district needs to get it together with the staff as well as the building structures. My step-father retired from the school board so I guess he got out just in time. I truly believe the state needs to step in and fix the mess that DeSoto County schools are in because obviously it is not working for those currently holding office.

Not only us as parents leave a lasting impression on our children, teachers and coaches do also. Sometimes they see our children more than we do so please make the right impression on their minds. Lead by respect and admiration not fear and intimidation.

The problem is you have talented young guys out there wanting to play football and are good, but some dont even get to play and end up quitting. Bring coaches from outside of the school system and let them coach these boys and not talk down to them, cuss them but to build them up. Coaches just arent coaches but should be mentors for these boys.

Coaches at DHS treat our children with no respect. I understand criticism but don’t belittle them. We need a new game plan and that’s to get new coaches that are on fire to coach not dictate. My son played in middle school but would not this year as a freshman because he has seen first hand how the players get treated.
