We the undersigned, being residents and electors in the Harrogate & Knaresborough Parliamentary Constituency , object to Harrogate Borough Councils proposed granting of retrospective and permanent planning permission for two sites on Case Lane and one at Thistle Hill Stables this is greenbelt land in the Calcutt area of Knaresborough. Coun. Willoughby said: “Government guidelines say people should not build on the green belt, and I do not agree that we are at the point of extenuating circumstances for the sites to be needed."
In this community we want a fair and diverse society where all people are welcome but we do not agree that the law should be broken by anyone and we must protect our green belt

We strongly object to the proposal to take 3 sites out of the green belt - most unfair on the other residents who would like to build but are refused planning permission- the same rules should apply to everyone.
There are valuable wildlife that need protection from urbanisation in and around Calcutt. The roads are already treacherous to cross for pedestrians and pollution levels aren't healthy either at present.
Protection of greenbelt land is paramount. Erosion of greenbelt is the thin end of the wedge - where will it stop? Once granted it sets a precedent and more and more greenbelt land is no longer safe.
Planning permission for green belt land should only be allowed for very extenuating circumstances but to occupy a green belt site and then apply for permission in retrospect defies the local community and the law so the precedent should not be set as it will lead to countless similar cases
HBC appears to be taking the line of least resistance and acting expediently by pushing this part of the plan through. There must be other options in the 1,308 square kilometers of Harrogate Borough for the proposed traveller sites which don't break the law by encroaching on green belt.
Green belt was designated for a reason. To stop In filling Between Harrogate and Knaresbough. More important than ever now
Green belt should always be left as green belt, there are plenty of brown belt areas available. It’s not really rocket science
