As a recently retired elementary school teacher who taught the arts and produced a number of theatre productions for students in grade 7-8, I can assure the administrations involved, for the kids who participate in the arts, it is a game changer. Cutting vital creative programs that do not “fit” the Provincial agenda regarding STEM is unconscionable. Norwell’s APP program is well worth fighting for.

Save the arts! Norwell has a fantastic drama department and I want my kids to have the opportunity to enroll in arts when they get to grade 9. Shame on you for cutting the APP program. Bring it back so future students have the opportunity to experience the arts in a whole new way!

As a Norwell alumni, I’m super proud of all speciality programs Norwell has to offer. As a young adult, I can appreciate why they are important for one’s development of skills that can’t be gained from sitting behind a desk.

As one of the first Alumni to ever perform on that stage, I can tell you first hand how important classes such as this are to a high school student coming into grade 9. When your unsure if your position in the world- like so many teens are now a day, this course allows you to find like minded people… one who maybe don’t run in the same social circles and you gain a better understanding of who they are. This program it total inclusion- there is no prior knowledge required and you have to supply nothing… it is at zero cost .. no rentals required, nothing to purchase while in the class.. not all other courses that attend specialized can say that.

Arts and Culture are important elements of all communities. Many students excel in the arts and it would be sad to see this opportunity taken away from the kids that are into the arts. I would be worried that their mental health would be impacted even more if they didn’t have this outlet. Not to mention watching the theatre norwell production and seeing the talent on stage was remarkable. The life lessons and friendships developed are immeasurable.
