**Update**

The town of Oakville has recognized Gary as a Therapy animal and has provided an exemption to the bylaw for her.

Thanks to all who provided their support by signing this petition.

Gary the Pig is a micro pot bellied pig. She came to live with us two years ago and acts as a therapy animal for two members of our household.

The town of Oakville, where we live in Canada, has a bylaw prohibiting farm animals in the town. This law was enacted in 1965 when the town was moving from a rural to a suburban community. The bylaw does not recognize the use of therapy animals, nor does it recognize pets that are not cats or dogs.

We were forced to remove Gary from our home and have her placed on a farm. She is not a farm animal and this is causing her considerable distress. We are seeking an exemption to the bylaw for Gary.

Please support her by signing our petition.

Thank you

The Oakville by-law is outdated and should be amended to align with other nearby jurisdictions like Hamilton that allow residents to keep pot belly/mini pigs. Pigs are clean and intelligent animals.

Therapeutic pets were not in legislation in the 1960's - times have changed. Gary is not the same as a farm animal pig. He is a vital member of this family and us loved.

Dear Town of Oakville, your definition of a "livable" town should include allowing service animals and therapy animals in their many forms. I hope you will reconsider changing this bylaw, and in the short term allowing this family to reconnect with their beloved and needed pet.

Our family loves Gary. She is the famous neighbourhood pig and we walk out of our way to see her. She is happy and well-taken care of and not a bother to anyone. She should be with her loving family in Oakville. Bring Gary home!!!

If he sleeps in his owners bed he's not a farm animal. Farm animals are located on farms. Because they are too big to be in a back yard. This pig is smaller than a small dog. And probably smarter than 95 percent of dog owners. And a lot quieter than 95 percent of small dogs. Your reason for taking him is invalid.

Gary is an amazing therephy animals regardless that she is a pig, she is just like a dog, house broke and even quieter than a dog she doesn't even bark. Signing to change the laws about so called farm animals in the city.

Gary is so sweet and loving she must be very upset after being separated from her rightful owners and deserves to stay were she feels comfortable
