As a foreign language teacher I find the contributions of this program to the Clarke County community to be immeasurably positive and unique. Not everyone has the opportunity to travel abroad and bringing a little bit of the rest of the world to Clarke County by receiving and hosting these exchange students is our chance to open our children's mind to the world. Children who are exposed to other cultures are, not only more understanding and tolerant, but also more willing to find peaceful ways to communicate and establish multi-cultural global relationships. Calrke County really needs this program to continue.

I wholeheartedly agree that the Clarke County community values the educational experiences High School exchange programs have to offer. We have a long tradition for welcoming students into our classrooms and into our homes as part of our American families, to experience everything from football (yes, "American" football:) and Halloween and Homecoming and Snow and chores and everything that is part of our own children's lives. As a result our Clarke Students have traveled abroad with Art and Science teachers, overseas to visit former exchange students who were hosted in Clarke, to study abroad in summer programs like the Oxbridge Program and host Spanish students in July. Part of today's collegiate experience includes travel abroad by students in both arts and sciences as we do become a global society, and by valuing the exchange program opportunities today we investing in success for our children in the future.

My family has hosted 8 exchange students for a 10 month period each along with a few additional ones passing through during the summer for a shorter period. By hosting these teenagers, my family was able to not only provide them a new outlook on culture, but also allow them a change to teach others about his/her culture as well. These exchange students became siblings, became role models, and had quite an impact on other children and families too. Gratitude was shown and bonds were made. Trust is a significant factor in this program. An important part in understanding this program and secting a good match for your family and the environment comes from the aid of a coordinator. Clarke County fortunately has an exceptional coordinator by the name of Tanya Barton. She's extremely professional, understanding, and very knowledgable on the fundamentals of the program. She's someone who will help you with even the minuscule details. If there's a wonderful support system, history of success, and a great coordinator, then why not continue this tradition? America is a mixing bowl; thus, if we have international students who have earned the priveledge and choose to study abroad on his/her own, shouldn't we support this? Shouldn't we want to teach our children and friends about possibilities as well?! This program creates such an impact on maturation, independence, and cultural experience. It would be a shame to lose such a valuable part of Clarke County's history.

As a beneficiary of this program, I can testify to its importance. It broadens the horizons of both the beneficiaries and the host communities. We need to save this program in Clarke County.

The exchange programs help American students expand awareness of the global economy and cultures in a closely personal environment. There is also great benefit by exposing foreign exchange students to American culture and developing lifelong friendships. I have often been impressed by the exceptional character of the students selected for the exchange program. We are fortunate to be able to welcome them here and the experience is invaluable to anyone interacting with them, even if not hosting them. This is an opportunity to create good will and warm relationships with not only an individual, but also the world.

Ending this program will be such a disservice to students at CCHS and those abroad. I have treasured lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories because of this program!
