I stand with the essential teachers! Please listen to their thoughts on your proposed changes and the impact to students. My elementary aged children love their essential areas time and look forward to the interactive and engaging break!

Art and Music are essential education. They build neural pathways for critical thinking. They allow students to find the humanity within themselves and better recognize it in others. The 3 day art/music/PE instruction is part of what makes AISD who we are. I'm a parent of an AISD graduate, HS student, and elementary student. These essential areas have been deeply formative for my children.

Essential areas are exactly that — they are essential! We need more of these areas, not less. Further, it’s not safe to have 45 young kids in PE at the same time. They will move from instructing to merely corralling kids.

My students love art and music. They say they are their favorite subjects. Please keep the rotation the way it is.

When I moved to the Chicago suburbs 30 years ago with my elementary school aged children, I bypassed many affordable school districts bc they had cut music and art for budgetary reasons. Please do not make the same mistake. It would be just as detrimental to our students today as it would have been for my own kids.
