it such a beautiful building with lots of history and memories of this town...

A historic ironstone building in a prominent site which should be brought back into use.

Wellingborough Councillors - are you a total bunch of philistines? How many historic buildings are you going to bulldoze before you realise you're destroying the town's character? Restore this lovely building and put it to good use like you should have done with the Corn Exchange. Or is your vision for the town to turn it into poundland central?

Certainly worth saving. Not much left of old Wellingborough as it is.

The Drill Hall, or St Heliers as it was named in 1874, when Mrs Mary Ann Marriott is listed in the Whellan Directory as the occupant In 1876, the Reverend James Ervine lived there and it is noted that his study window at St Heliers looked out upon the site for the [Congregational] church, as it was being built. While it appears to have been used as a manse at this date, it is not known whether it was built as such. It is present on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map and on the Second Edition map is called St Heliers Hall. In the 1886 large scale map of the town, there are extensive gardens to the rear of the building and it appears to have been a fine private residence. The former TA Centre according to the HER information the Drill Hall and garages behind were built in 1939, and opened by the Duchess of Gloucester in May of that year. These buildings have now been demolished, leaving the original buildings associated with St Heliers. They are built with the distinctive bands of ironstone and limestone that are seen elsewhere within the town. The Queens Hall Day Centre, immediately to the south, has similar stonework Outline Planning Permission is being sought for Demolition and redevelopment as an Independent Living Unit, there are no formal designs for the proposed building St Heliers should NOT be demolished, it should be kept and integrated in to the new development proposed for the High Street / Jacksons Lane area

Too much of old Wellingborough has been destroyed. This building should be restored and put to use. Possibly for functions?

This is a valuable building and needs to be preserved and used again to benefit the town of Wellingborough

The character of Wellingborough is changing beyond all recognition. The buildings that have made the town what it was in the past are being sold or torn down to make way for new housing, roads, new anything really. Surely we want to have a town that is proud of its past, proud of the buildings that make the town what it is and being so,past present and future can the move forward together. The Drill Hall could be made into a feature of the town instead of demolition thus encouraging visitors and extra footfall to the town.

Agree with all comments. Would make an arts and antiques centre. Would urge everyone to vote to save a piece of history.

I agree to its refurbishment but it must have a use. Perhaps it could be handed over to a trust with endowment for them to oversee its restoration and development as a facility.

The Drill Hall is a beautiful building. Please use it wisely for the people of Wellingborough. It needs to be renovated and put to good use. I no longer live locally, but feel strongly about the town where I went to secondary school and work. Please save our heritage.

Now living in Canada, the drill hall was part of my upbringing in Wellingborough. Renovate the building, this is history
