A few years ago, Mount Royal cancelled its Jazz Studies Diploma Program, so it shouldn't be surprising be that this was something on its agenda. Just another thing to make it a substandard institution.

I strongly support this petition for the reinstatement of Messrs. John Kadz and Bill van der Sloot, and any additional remedial actions to be determined by the governing board to protect the future of the Conservatory and the future of Mount Royal University

As a Canadian I am outraged at this turn of events. When I was a young music student the best opportunities were here in the U.S. where I remained for my career. Had there been more support for Canadian talents there would have been a different outcome. Research has now proven that music education enhances all learning and produces better and more successful citizens. I urge you to reconsider your decision and to support your conservatory!

The conservatory has served our grandchildren admirable. It is recognized as a national and international centre of excellence in music education that has enhanced the reputation and stature of MRU. John Kadz and Bill van der Sloot have been the core drivers of this program and its reputation. The loss of their talents and energy is a severe blow to the future of the MRU music program. Please reconsider you decision to decision. to terminate these talented professionals.

As the CEO of a leading Alberta media production studio, I am appalled at the monumental short sightedness of many of the recent decisions made regarding the systematic gutting of the Conservatory. If I made such cavalier and ill thought out decisions regarding my intellectual capital, I would be, quite rightly fired, or my company would quickly go bankrupt. I urge the Board to do the right thing now before it is too late.

Somehow someone now in charge has neglected to read the history of the Conservatory and thinks it is just a continuing education school for rock guitarists. There is a copy of the history in the Library. Get a grip, administrators.

As founder of the Mount Royal Children's Choir, I am shocked by this news. The conservatory has not only provided the "stars" but also some of the finest musicians for the professional orchestras in Canada/world. I had assumed that the opening of the beautiful concert hall had solidified the performance arts at Mount Royal University. What possible logic could the Board of Governors for this move?

One of the absurdities of academics is administrations do not always recognize that the core value of the institute lies in the faculty. Certainly, if for "economic reasons", this decision makes no sense. These are the names students come for.

Only two things can be traced to the beginnings of Man and his society - Music and Religion...sometimes intertwined. Yet Music is one of the first things to be thrown away when 'streamlining' education...I just don't get it.

Bill and John's visionary leadership has put the Music Conservatory at Mount Royal and subsequently Calgary "on the map" in the world of arts by creating a centre of excellence respected across the country and abroad. The decision to terminate employment of these individuals and the manner in which it was done is a blatant disregard for this good work and is a disgrace to the current administration processes. Leadership without vision is all too common. It appears that this decision is made at best without vision, at worst with malicious intent to topple a unique infrastructure which has born much fruit over many decades.

As a fellow cello pedagogy teacher at both the pre college and university level, Mr. John Kadz is among the best in the world. This conservatory programme was built upon his work and expertise along with thise who have like -minded vision. Allow him to carry on and continue Mount Royal's legendary conservatory.
