I have cerebral palsy, but my condition is well-known and understood, even in the worst-case scenario, which mine isn't. Autism is quite new comparatively, and thus tougher for people, especially politicians, to grasp and understand, which is why talking to professionals and the parents and caretakers who directly deal with it is essential. That's why this has to be continued and built upon; this program enables autistics to realize their potential, and thus become part of the community. It's crucial to ensure this program goes forward and is strengthened, not weakened.

If passed, this will do irreparable harm to families of people with disabilities and their caregivers. It will also negatively affect Missouri financially.

This also effects military families. They are often one parent households while their loved one is deployed serving our country. This will greatly hinder family cohesiveness that our men and women depend on to serve.

My brother Aelred lived in a nursing home instead of at home with the support of a DSP. This was the nineties. We can’t go back to warehousing our folks. People have the right to DSP support to live their self determined lives in community.

My adult daughter has used this service for years. It allows her to learn skills, Set her own schedule and be safe in her chosen community. SDS allows for stable, trained staff that know her well. She is able to advocate for herself and direct her care and her life. .

My son receives services through DMH and the Medicaid waiver. If we were to have funding cut this would drastically impact our family. I would not be able to work or give a life my children deserve to have. Everybody deserves to have a fulfilling life. I have no support or help outside of a hired caregiver.

This bill would essentially force families to institutionalize their loved ones. Institutionalizing costs far more than them being able to stay at home and feel safe and still have their dignity and their best quality of life. Also, this budget cut would force the people caring for the individuals to find a new job, which means they no longer have anyone to care for them and the individuals turn, would have to go to an institution, which again, is an outrageously large amount of money for the care. PLEASE do not let this bill pass. It is detrimental to individuals needing the care AND to the providers giving the care.

Our kids deserve access to quality care and this bill affects that in a very negative way.
